The 24-year-old is the best-ranked Indian batter in the 50-over format and is just behind Babar Azam who holds the No. 1 spot in the ICC rankings. Yuvraj reckoned that Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. The former cricketer added that the youngster has been working four times harder than normal people from his childhood. “Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. The guy works hard. Since he was 19-20, his attitude has always been like that. He works four times harder than a normal guy since he was a kid. Whatever I have worked with him, he can be the player of this era,” Yuvraj told The Week. The 41-year-old lauded Gill's performance in his debut Test series in Australia in December 2020. The defending champions will play New Zealand in the tournament opener on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in a rematch of the 2019 final. The 30-year-old recalled his memory of watching England’s epic victory in the 2019 final contested at the Lord's Cricket Ground. Three years after that, Livingstone managed to win a World Cup with the team as England defeated Pakistan to clinch the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. He believes the experience England got from both the title wins could help the team in defending their title. “It’s huge. The experience of 2019 probably helped us last year in 2022 with the lads we had out there. Certainly Stokesy [Ben Stokes], in particular, having played a massive role i

However, the Alyssa Healy-led side suffered back-to-back defeats in the ODI and T20I series, which complicated things a little bit for them. However, the series ended 8-8 after the ODI and T20I series, and courtesy of the same, the Aussies managed to keep the trophy. Reflecting on the performance, Healy mentioned that the series against England has helped them improve in certain areas as they have learned a lot. She believes that it will also help individuals get better in the coming tournaments.  “It's given us a great opportunity to come home and reflect and find some little areas that we can improve on, which I think is only going to make our team and us as individuals even better moving forward. Which I think is a fantastic outcome, that we can come home with the trophy and also come home with some

He added that any other team could jump in the race at any time and make it interesting and could very well win the prestigious cup.  The former cricketer also reminded that luck plays a massive role in all the mega tournaments. He reminded that in the 2019 edition, New Zealand were the favourites to win the trophy, but luck favoured England as the Eoin Morgan-led side went on to win their first-ever ODI World Cup . “So, I would say India, England, Australia, and the fourth team can be anyone. These three have more chances. But you never know; cricket is all about luck. As seen in the last World Cup, we thought that New Zealand would win and England won the trophy with luck favouring them,” Muralidaran

In addition, he described the journey as "utter chaos" and added, "Last leg incoming... been some trip," concluding with an emoji of a laughing face. The first couple of T20Is will be played in Sydney while the final game will be held in Brisbane. Star allrounder Ellyse Perry injured her knee during Australia's second ODI encounter versus Ireland in July. Owing to the injury, she missed the third and final ODI as well as the Women's Hundred in England. The veteran is still recuperating from the injury. She has been named in Australia's squad for the T20Is as well as the ODIs against the West Indies. However, the 32-year-old might play as a specialist batter and refrain from bowling in the white-ball series. Perry played her first competitive match since the injury on Tuesday, September 26, for Victoria against Western Australia. She did not bowl in the one-day contest. The experienced campaigner shared an update on when she could start bowling aga

He was picked up in the Indian Premier League Auction ahead of the 2023 edition with high hopes by Gujarat Titans. Months later, much to the delight of cricket enthusiasts around the world, the experienced campaigner has recovered post-surgery and will be leading the Black Caps in the marquee event, which begins with them facing defending champions England on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. New Zealand play a couple of warm-up games ahead of this first encounter against Pakistan and South Africa. Maxwell finished with excellent figures of 4/40 as Australia registered a comfortable 66-run win, thereby, denying India a series whitewash.   "It was a great spell. (Photo Source; Twitter) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah spoke about the efforts the cricket governing body in India took to achieve pay parity for men and women cricketers at the introduction of a ground-breaking program designed to inspire youngsters and advance gender equality. Speaking at an event, Shah noted that several organisations, including the US Open Tennis, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), and the International Cricket Council (ICC), announced equal pay for their players after BCCI established it for their cricketers. Notably, in October 2022, the BCCI announced that the centrally contracted players for the men's and women's cricket teams will get equal match fees. "Cricket is not just sports for us, but it's an emotion that connects every Indian from the youngest to the oldest. (Photo by MICHAEL BRADLEY/AFP/Getty Images) Spinners are expected to play a huge role in the impending ODI World Cup, which is set to be hosted exclusively by India for the first time. Spin bowlers who can contribute with the bat will be key players for the teams participating in the marquee event. In this regard, Australia had the advantage of having spin-bowling allrounder Ashton Agar in their ranks, who has around ten years of international experience.  However, with the World Cup beginning in just a week's time, the five-time champions have suffered a devastating blow as the 29-year-old has been ruled out with a calf injury, as per The Daily Telegraph. For the unversed, Agar had been dealing with calf issues for quite some time. During training with Western Australia, ahead of the away series against South Africa, the left-arm spinner suffered a minor calf tear. He missed the T20Is against the Proteas but returned for the ODI leg of the tour. Ho

With the marquee event all set to begin on October 5, India have put forth excellent performances in the preceding tournaments and even in their recently concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. With the tournament rapidly approaching, team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, took centre stage and talked of his satisfaction with the preparation of the squad for the World Cup. Dravid opined that he was content with the amount of game time that each player got.  "For people like Jasprit, Ashwin, Shreyas, KL, getting game time was important, and getting that against a competitive side is a good thing. The practice games are generally 15 vs 15 so it's hard to get that level of intensity in those games," Rahul Dravid was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.  "Jasprit got a couple of games, and bowled his quo

Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan. (Photo Source: Twitter) Bangladesh recently announced their 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup in India, starting on October 5, and one of the biggest developments coming out from it was the omission of veteran opener Tamim Iqbal. The southpaw was the captain of Bangladesh during their ODI series against Afghanistan in July. However, Tamim decided to retire midway through the series before having a consultation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and taking a U-turn. During this back and forth, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to entrust Shakib Al Hasan with leadership duties for the Asia Cup 2023 and the subsequent World Cup. Tamim and Shakib have had a tumultuous relationship in recent times. The former played in Bangladesh's recent series against New Zealand after missing the Asia Cup owing to a back injury. However, after playing the second ODI against the Kiwis, Tamim mentioned that he is still feeling the effect of the back i

In the third match, he scored 56 off 34, including six fours and four sixes, before being dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. Warner scored 52 and 53 runs in the first two matches in Mohali and Indore. Warner had also showcased great form in the previous series against South Africa. However, Australia ended up on the losing side as South Africa comfortably won the last three ODIs to claim the series victory. Former England captain Michael Vaughan recently stated in a tweet that hosts India are the team to beat in the tournament and reckoned that the team who could beat the 'Men in Blue' could go on to bag the title. Now, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has echoed the remarks of Vaughan and mentioned that if India don't commit mistakes, it would be very difficult for other teams to beat them. "India are the only one in world cricket to have this ultimate rise. Everyone is talking about four teams to watch out for in the upcoming World Cup. Shakib Al Hasan (Photo Source: Twitter) It seems that Bangladesh will be suffering a huge blow as their talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, reportedly wants to relinquish the captaincy of the ODI team after taking the responsibility just over a month ago. Shakib Al Hasan was reinstated as captain of the ODI side by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 and is also scheduled to lead the 'Bangla Tigers' in the 50-over World Cup, which takes place in India in October-November. A BCB source told The Daily Star that Shakib has informed the nation's cricket governing body that he doesn't intend to lead the side at the marquee event. The 36-year-old met BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon at his residence at midnight alongside Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and made his situation known. As per BCB sources, Shakib doesn't want half-fit players in his team and that is one of the reasons behind him not wanting to captain Banglades

Sanjay Bangar. (Photo Source: Twitter) India and Australia are gearing up for the third and final ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on September 27. The hosts have already clinched the series, having won the first two ODIs. Meanwhile, Sanjay Bangar, former India batting coach, reckoned that the main wicket-keeping role will remain a point of contention for the Men in Blue. Notably, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan are the two options in India’s 15-man ODI World Cup squad. “I think who is the main wicketkeeper that will be a big point. If it is KL Rahul, then he will bat at No. 5, and Shreyas will take the No. 4 spot. Then, unfortunately, Ishan Kishan and Surya will miss out in the last game,” Bangar told Star Sports. The former cricketer went on to say that if Ravichandran Ashwin plays instead of Washington Sundar in the third ODI, it’ll mean that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid trust the veteran off-spinner more. Furthermore, Ashwin claimed a three-wicket haul

The Kiwis will kick start their campaign against England on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee during the opening match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. The 33-year-old has undergone knee surgery and intense rehab in order to make a speedy recovery. "It would be great. Naturally, you want to be back playing when you are fit and ready, sooner rather than later. You hope that ends up being around that World Cup time, but I'm still being very focused on the rehab day-to-day and not wanting those targets to stretch it to a point where you take a backward step," Williamson was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.  The 33-year-old, who has already restarted batting in the nets

The 34-year-old is all set to have a third bite at the cherry when he puts on the Kiwi jersey once again to play in the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India, beginning next month. Boult turned down a New Zealand Cricket contract to play in franchise leagues in Australia, India, and the United States. Getting to spend more time with his family was one of the other major reasons behind not committing to a contract with the national team. However, the left-arm seamer showed his class in the franchise leagues and has earned his spot back in the New Zealand team ahead of the impending ODI World Cup. The Babar Azam-led side is slated to fly on the early morning of August 27 but the delay in visa might play a role in them arriving late for the mega tournament. They are slated to play against New Zealand in a warm-up game on September 29 and hence, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed their displeasure about the whole thing. The Zaka Ashraf-led organisation are in constant touch with the International Cricket Council (ICC) at the moment in order to solve the situation. Interestingly, they are the only participating team to not receive the visa and hence, PCB has asked the global body to intervene and also demanded written guarantees from BCCI to prove whether visas would be provided to all participating nations. After the coaching change that left the UAE cricket team in disarray, Rizwan's form mirrored the team's struggles. He eventually lost the captain's position during a crucial World Cup League 2 series in Dubai. Although he initially made the squad for a tour to Nepal, he lost his spot in the starting XI. Despite these setbacks, Rizwan's commitment to the game remained unshaken. He embarked on a journey to the United States to play in Minor League Cricket.
