Shubman Gill definitely has the talent and ability, but he needs more maturity: Kapil Dev

Image
Shubman Gill (Photo Source: Twitter) If there is one thing that the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has done, it is solidifying 23-year-old Shubman Gill as one of the best young batters in world cricket. Going into the season, all eyes were already set on Gill, as he had been in scintillating form for India and, representing Gujarat Titans in the tournament, Gill was undoubtedly one of the best players for the side. The 23-year-old was in a league of his own throughout the competition and even finished as the IPL orange cap winner. He hit three centuries in the tournament and had 890 runs in 17 matches. Being just 23 years old, Gill also became the second-highest individual run-getter in a season in IPL history. Seeing his exceptional form in the tournament, former India skipper Kapil Dev lauded Gill's sensational performances. He opined that Gill is following in the footsteps of many great players, however, he still needs another year to solidify himsel

Rishabh Pant not in need of second surgery

Image
Rishabh Pant (Photo Source : Instagram/IPL) Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been out of contention to play for quite some time now. The 25-year-old was in a car accident in December 2022, which saw him sustain major injuries and rule him out of playing for an entire year. However, Pant has made great strides to get back on the pitch in recent months, and he was also seen walking without crutches. Furthermore, Pant has reportedly been treated with even more good news, as he would not have to undergo another surgery, which was originally the plan.  Times of India reported that the medical officials overseeing the 25-year-old are happy with the progress he has made thus far. He sustained some major injuries from the accident, and as the doctors who kept him under watch ruled out another surgery, it could mean the star wicketkeeper is on the road to making a full recovery.  Pant had surgery on his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and he also had some repairs on the anter

‘Yashasvi Jaiswal by a long margin for sure’ - AB de Villiers picks his favourite player of IPL 2023

Image
Yashasvi Jaiswal. (Photo Source: IPL) Rajasthan Royals’ young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has played some phenomenal cricket in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. In 14 matches, the 21-year-old has scored 625 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61, with that, he is currently fourth in the IPL Orange Cap race. Now, even though the cricketer failed to help his team qualify for the playoffs, he was lauded by multiple former cricketers, including AB de Villiers, who picked Jaiswal as his favourite player of IPL 2023 . Notably, not just scoring runs on a consistent basis, Jaiswal was playing an aggressive brand of cricket, which is ideal for the shortest format of the game. Against Kolkata Knight Riders, the cricketer registered the quickest half-century in IPL history and thus, his aggressive nature with the bat was heavily appreciated. Talking about the same, de Villiers mentioned that the UP-born cricketer has all the shots in his bag and is very calm and co

Greek-Australian cricketer Peter Hatzoglou signs short-term deal with Glamorgan

Image
Peter Hatzoglou. (Photo Source: Twitter) Young Greek-Australian spinner, Peter Hatzoglou, signed a short-term deal with the British club, Glamorgan, after Michael Neser has been called up to the national training camp. Notably, the 24-year-old is very likely to be available for three matches only but can extend by a couple more, if Neser remains unavailable.  He made his debut for Glamorgan against Somerset in the ongoing T20 blast on Sunday, May 28, but failed to make any sort of impact. Even though he scored 15 runs off eight deliveries in the first innings. With the ball, the cricketer leaked 50 runs off four overs and thus, there’s a lot of room for improvement at the moment. However, before making his debut for the Kiran Carlson-led side, Hatzoglou stated that he is very eager to play for the club and is desperate to make an impact. “It’s a fast-moving world in the T20 arena, I don’t know how long I’ll be here for but I’m really excited to play and make an impact,” Hatzog

'Do we want him to play all his life? ' - Kapil Dev gives blunt statement on MS Dhoni's IPL retirement

Image
MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev. (Photo Source: Twitter) MS Dhoni and all the talks around his IPL retirement just do not seem to come to an end. The ongoing IPL 2023 has also been abuzz with a lot of rumours regarding his retirement from the cash-rich league but the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper is yet to confirm the same. The CSK skipper was all geared up with his troops to take on the defending champions in the summit clash of the IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 28 but persistent rain pushed the fixture into its reserve day (Monday, May 29). During the rain delay on Sunday, India legend and the 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev gave his take on Dhoni's potential IPL retirement. While speaking to ABP News during the rain break, Kapil lauded Dhoni for leading the team into the finals of the 16th edition of the IPL and also mentioned that the four-time IPL champion is not going to play all his life. "He has been playing IPL for 15 years. Why is it that we are only talking ab

Reports: BCCI likely to reject PCB’s hybrid model proposal for upcoming Asia Cup

However, despite extensive discussions, there has been no resolution provided for it. After the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) made its stance clear and did not agree to travel to Pakistan due to political tension between the two countries, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) came up with a hybrid model plan to organise the event. After several weeks, the PCB proposed a hybrid model for the tournament where four preliminary rounds and two super four games would be held in Pakistan, with India’s games and the final to be held at a neutral venue. However, following the hybrid model’s proposal, several reports emerged that stated that ACC (Asian Cricket Council) chairman and BCCI's secretary Jay Shah was discontented with the same. Several reports state that the Indian cricket governing body wi

Gujarat Titans are the best team but my heart wants CSK to win for MS Dhoni: Sunil Gavaskar

Image
Sunil Gavaskar and MS Dhoni. (Photo Source: Twitter) The IPL 2023 commenced with a contest between the Gujarat Titans and CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 31st March. Interestingly, the league's season will conclude with a clash between the same two teams and both would be trying their best to get their hands on the trophy. CSK defeated Hardik's squad in Qualifier 1 three days back in front of an enthusiastic home crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. However, defending champions, the Gujarat Titans will have the support of their home fans this time around, having already crushed the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 on Friday, setting up a rematch against the Chennai Super Kings. Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar desires the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to capture the trophy, particularly because he adores MS Dhoni. Gavaskar readily acknowledged that CSK has a special place in his soul as his second favourite IPL team, after his home side, the Mumbai Indians.

'Deepak Chahar is the only threat' - Aakash Chopra on possibility of Shubman Gill shattering Virat Kohli's record 2016 season

Image
Deepak Chahar and Shubman Gill (Photo Source: Twitter) The defending champion Gujarat Titans will take on the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 final.  Gill demolished MI's bowling lineup and hammered his third ton of the competition. Shubman Gill blasted 129 runs in 60 balls, slamming seven fours and ten big sixes. Gill has 851 runs in 16 innings with an astounding average of 60.79 and a strike rate of 156.43 in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. He remains just 122 runs short of Virat Kohli's record 973-run aggregate in the 2016 edition of the renowned competition. Former cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra affirmed Deepak Chahar could be the sole concern for Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill in the IPL 2023 final against the Chennai Super Kings. In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Chopra questioned whether Gill might surpass Kohli's record. He predicts the opener to be outstanding again if he tackles Chahar's new-ball pressure. &qu

Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final will be played between the four-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the reigning champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, May 28, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both GT and CSK have had a memorable season, finishing first and second in the IPL 2023 points table, respectively. Both the teams would be eager to win the championship as MS Dhoni and Co. would like to tie the record of the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) by winning their fifth title, while the Titans would like to win the title for the second time in a row. Chennai recovered from an awful showing in the previous IPL season, when they finished ninth in the ten-team league. However, in 2023, they finished at the second spot in the table, with 17 points after winning eight of their 14 matches. Furthermore, the MS Dhoni-led side was the first team to qualify for the final this year as the

'Gill will gobble up trio of Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit because of his batting' - Former India cricketer makes huge prediction ahead of IPL final

Shubman Gill. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill has been single-handedly knocking out the biggest stars of the  IPL 2023 with match-winning hundreds. Gill's second century of the season came against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, handing Virat Kohli yet another setback before the playoffs. Gill's record-breaking 129-run knock against Mumbai in Qualifier 2 on Friday successfully ended MI's bid for a sixth IPL title. Former India pace bowler Atul Wassan lauded Shubman Gill ahead of the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Dhoni, according to Wassan, could be the next victim of Shubman Gill's hitting after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. With the Gujarat Titans in the final for the second consecutive season, Gill will have the biggest challenger in the form of legendary MS Dhoni's CSK. Wassan stated that the Gujarat Titans made a big impact in the

Gujarat Titans are competing in their second IPL final in two years. However, it is Chennai Super Kings who are competing in their 10th final, with it being the 11th summit clash for Chennai skipper MS Dhoni. Being a legendary skipper and having further enhanced his legacy in the IPL, MS Dhoni would be keen on leading Chennai to their fifth IPL title. With the summit clash of the competition right around the corner, all eyes would be set on the Yellow Army and Dhoni.  Speaking ahead of the clash between Chennai and Gujarat, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody recently came forward to heap praise on the legendary captain of the four-time champions. IPL Trophy. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 rapidly approaching its end, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans will go head-to-head to grab the coveted title. Being one of the most prestigious titles in the world, the golden IPL trophy is arguably one of the hardest to achieve and one of the most sought-after titles in league cricket around the globe. Boasting a stunning design, the IPL trophy is one of the most beautiful titles in the world, with an inspiring message inscribed in its middle as well. Engraved in Sanskrit, there is a message on the title that reads, "Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi." The message translates to "where talent meets opportunity." Which goes hand in hand with the culture of the tournament, and it has been a stepping stone for a plethora of youngsters who have gone on to become world beaters. (Photo by Luke Walker/Getty Images for Surrey CCC) The final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will feature a clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28. With both sides gearing up to accelerate their preparations for the summit clash of the cash-rich league, it could be interesting to see whether MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings become five-time champions or if Gujarat are able to successfully defend their title. It could prove to be a massive challenge for the Hardik Pandya-led side to overcome the experience in Chennai’s lineup. Gujarat faced defeat against Chennai in Qualifier 1 of the IPL, and it could be interesting to see how they fare in the rematch. However, with obvious nervousness in the camp, Gujarat’s Director of Cricket, Vikram Solanki, was confident of the team’s preparations ahead of the final. "We entirely apprecia

'He's been the man I can rely on' - Hardik Pandya reveals his most trusted player in Gujarat Titans camp

Hardik Pandya. (Photo Source: BCCI/IPL) Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Hardik Pandya revealed that all-rounder Rashid Khan is his most trusted teammate when the situation becomes challenging. Hardik and Co. have made their way into the final for the second time in a row after defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 62 runs in Qualifier 2 of the  2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, May 26, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts of the summit clash will now face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday, May 28. While young opener Shubman Gill stole the show with his third hundred of the season, Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan assisted GT with his magic in spin bowling. He took two key wickets, removing Tilak Varma and Tim David to keep GT in the game. Notably, Rashid currently sits second on the  IPL 2023 Purple Cap list with 27 wickets to his name. Hardik extolled the Afghan spinner after the game culminated, stating Rashid is the one he can rely on when things get tr

One who is playing in the IPL is aware of the pressure you’ll have while playing for India: Deepak Chahar

Image
Deepak Chahar. (Photo Source: IPL) Indian Premier League, over the years, has given birth to multiple rags-to-riches stories. In 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rinku Singh were the fortunate ones as they established their authority after struggling for the majority of the time. Thus,  IPL not only shaped the careers of young cricketers, but also gave a lot of cricketers the financial security that everyone needs in order to sustain. Speaking about the same, India cricketer Deepak Chahar revealed how it also helped cricketers to gain a lot of confidence as well. Citing the example of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, Chahar mentioned that since they have financial security because of IPL, the cricketers can play a fearless brand of cricket and go for Hollywood shots right from the start. Notably, this side of IPL often goes unrecognised as finance is not just helping a cricketer sustain but also giving the confidence of playing their natural shots at the international level. “What I

Over the last two months, the ten franchises competed fiercely, with some performing better than others. Several batters put up a phenomenal show during the tournament to emerge as the best over others. There have been instances where teams struggled to go above 140 runs and others where 200+ runs totals were successfully chased. Chase master Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have two and three hundreds, respectively, this season. Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Venketesh Iyer, Harry Brook, and Heinrich Klaasen all scored one centuries each to outshine one other. Moreover, this was the first time that two uncapped batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prabhsimran Singh, scored hundreds in the same edition of the league. Following such strong performances, Virender Sehwag picked his top five batters o

(Photo Source: Twitter and IPL/BCCI) The inaugural IPL champions, Rajasthan Royals failed to make the playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 , finishing fifth on the table with 14 points. Royals had made it to the finals of the IPL in 2022 but failed to produce consistent performances in 2023 despite a strong start; Royals had won four of their first six matches with a good run rate but faced four losses in the next five games as their batting line-up had several dismal outings. Samson finished the season with 362 runs in 14 matches, and fans and veteran cricketers alike were disappointed with the captain's batting performances as compared to how he fared in the 15th edition of the league. He batted well in a few games but wasn't able to maintain his batting form throughout the entirety of the season. S Sreesanth, former India pacer, who played with Samson for their state team Kerala, also said that India's batting icon Sunil Ga

‘I will never walk away from England’ - Jason Roy opens up after relinquishing national contract

Jason Roy. (Photo Source: MUNIR UZ ZAMAN/AFP via Getty Images) England opener Jason Roy has revealed that even though he has relinquished his increment contract with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), his priority remains to play for the national team, especially with the ODI World Cup coming up. Notably, few reports suggest that the flamboyant batter has signed a new deal with  Major League Cricket (MLC) and will be playing for Los Angles Knight Riders (LAKR) in the inaugural edition of the tournament. Roy, in a statement, confirmed that ECB does not have any issues with him playing in the MLC as long as they do not have to pay the cricketer for the remainder of the season. The cricketer also mentioned that since England will be playing five-match Test series against Australia during that time, there will be no conflict of schedule as well. “Following a bit of unwanted speculation over the last 24 hours, I wanted to clarify that I am not and never will ‘walk away from Engla

IPL 2023: Aakash Chopra analyses Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians ahead of Qualifier 2

Image
Aakash Chopra. (Photo Source: Twitter) Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Mumbai Indians will be a hard team to beat and also reminded that Gujarat Titans cannot be taken lightly as the Hardik Pandya-led has been very consistent in the ongoing IPL 2023 . Notably, after losing to Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1, the defending champions will be taking on Mumbai Indians with the hope of making it to their second consecutive final. Mumbai, on the other hand, have a staggering record in the playoffs. Thus, Chopra believes that the match is currently evenly poised and the team that plays better cricket on Friday, May 26 will emerge victorious and move to the finals to play against the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings. “It will not be easy to beat Mumbai. Gujarat are also a good team. Don't take Gujarat lightly because they remained at No. 1 continuously throughout the tournament. Once they became No. 1, they didn't go down after that and qualified extr

Since the start of the 2020-21 campaign, the 30-year-old has hit 1337 runs at an average of 37.13 and also scored five centuries in the process. Thus, he is in terrific form at the moment but with Alex Carey available at the moment, it will be difficult for the cricketer to break into the playing XI. Notably, Peirson represented Australia A recently on two tours and scored a century against Sri Lanka in 2022. He has been a part of the scheme of things for quite some time and was also training with the main squad in recent weeks

Nathan Lyon. (Photo Source: BCCI) Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon wants to win bring more laurels to his country before he calls time on his career. Lyon has been Australia’s first-choice red-ball spinner for several years. Notably, Australia will take on India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final from June 7 at the Oval in London, which will be followed by the 2023 Ashes in England from June 16 to July 31.  Despite the rise of players such as Todd Murphy, Mitchell Swepson, Ashton Agar and Matthew Kuhnemann, Lyon has no plans to retire anytime soon. The veteran spinner has achieved plenty in his career but has failed to win an Ashes series in England or win against India on the subcontinent. Lyon indicated that with both the series coinciding in 2027, he might play until then to clinch the series. The 35-year-old stated that he does not want to pick a particular number of wickets and then retire, adding that he wants to improve every day by learning and enjoying the ga

Reports: BCCI consults agencies over closed bids and e-auctions for India's bilateral rights

The officials are currently discussing probable ways to determine that as e-auction and closed bids remain the favourite options. Reports suggest that the Roger Binny-led organization has consulted five agencies over the way to go about selling the rights, for the 2023-27 cycle. Ernst and Young, one of the leading global agencies was one of them while KMPG, a brand with whom BCCI have worked before was also consulted. Notably, KMPG played a massive role in helping BCCI receive a massive deal during the sale of IPL’s media rights. It is also believed that Mumbai-based media selling company, Group M was also consulted. Meanwhile, Disney Star and Viacom18 remain the favourites to win the race this time ar

‘We're optimistic with what Dave's got left’ - Andrew McDonald throws his weight behind David Warner ahead of WTC final and Ashes

(Photo Source: Darrian Traynor/Getty Images) Following the end of the World Test Championship final between Australia and India, which is scheduled from June 7 the Pat Cummins-led Aussies will next take on England in the much-anticipated Ashes series that is scheduled to begin from June 16. With Australia still looking to field their best possible line-up for the WTC summit clash, the inclusion of ace batter David Warner could be a heavily discussed topic in the coming weeks. The 36-year-old has gone through a lean patch in Test cricket recently, and his inclusion in the side has been questioned by many.  Warner couldn't score a fifty in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played earlier this year. After his name was announced in the Australian squad for the WTC final and the Ashes, many people voiced their opinion against the same. However, head coach Andrew McDonald has a different opinion. The 41-year-old opined that despite poor form in red-ball cricket, Warner is

IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar analyses development of players under Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra and Chandrakant Pandit

Image
Sunil Gavaskar. (Photo Source: Twitter) IPL 2023 has given birth to a lot of potential superstars who can represent the national team in the coming years. Under the watchful eyes of Chandrakant Pandit, Rinku Singh and Suyash Sharma emerged as new heroes of Kolkata Knight Riders while Gautam Gambhir really helped Krunal Pandya develop as a leader and also groomed players like Naveen-ul-Haq and Ayush Badoni among many others.  Ashish Nehra in Gujarat Titans has been brilliant as well and that has impressed former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar a lot. Talking about the importance of having an Indian coach in the mix, Gavaskar stated that it’s relatively easier for the Indian domestic players to communicate with their coaches if he or she is an Indian, rather than foreign coaches, where the language can be a barrier. However, Gavaskar also clarified that there are exceptions as well. “Look at the progress made by Rinku Singh under Chandu Pandit, the terrific coming back to form of

Reportedly, the all-rounder, along with his national teammates Litton Das and Afif Hossain, has registered for the draft but the two-time finalists made a direct deal with him. This will be his first season in the LPL and he will have the pressure to deliver as Galle have never managed to win the title. Notably, the draft will be taking place on June 11 but all five teams have the liberty to sign players ahead of that. Sri Lanka international Wanindu Hasaranga, who has done reasonably well in the ongoing Indian Premier League , has been re-signed by Kandy Falcons while the three-time champions Jaffna Kings have made a brilliant acquisition by signing the South Africa international David Miller. The 33-year-old has played some sensational cricket in the last few months and has managed 255 runs in 13 matches in

(Photo Source: IPL/BCCi) Chasing 198 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last league game of IPL 2023 , young Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill smashed a terrific century and helped his team win the match by six wickets. Notably, batting first, the home team lost a couple of early wickets but Virat Kohli reigned supreme, hitting his second consecutive century in the tournament. Based on his incredible batting, RCB posted a defendable total on board but Gill absolutely changed the complexion of the game in the second innings by playing some phenomenal cricket.
