MS Dhoni and all the talks around his IPL retirement just do not seem to come to an end. The ongoing IPL 2023 has also been abuzz with a lot of rumours regarding his retirement from the cash-rich league but the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper is yet to confirm the same.
The CSK skipper was all geared up with his troops to take on the defending champions in the summit clash of the IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 28 but persistent rain pushed the fixture into its reserve day (Monday, May 29).
During the rain delay on Sunday, India legend and the 1983 World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev gave his take on Dhoni's potential IPL retirement. While speaking to ABP News during the rain break, Kapil lauded Dhoni for leading the team into the finals of the 16th edition of the IPL and also mentioned that the four-time IPL champion is not going to play all his life.
"He has been playing IPL for 15 years. Why is it that we are only talking about Dhoni? He has done his work. What more do we want from him? Do we want him to play all his life? That is not going to happen. We should instead be thankful that he played for 15 years. Whether he plays next year or not, before departing he has played impressively. He may not have scored big runs but he led the team to the final and it shows what is the importance of a skipper in the game of cricket," said Kapil.
Incessant rain pushes IPL 2023 summit clash to reserve day
While the entire world waited with bated breath for the action to kick-start on Sunday (May 28), rain played spoilsport and continued pouring down at the venue which didn't allow the play to begin.
The game has been pushed into the reserve day and if the rain doesn't allow the game to happen again then Gujarat Titans will be crowned as the champions of the 2023 edition by virtue of finishing on top of the IPL 2023 points table at the end of the league stage.
