We have a hell of a lot to play for in the last three World Cup games: Dawid Malan

(Photo Source: ARUN SANKAR/AFP via Getty Images) Defending champions England have had a shoddy campaign thus far in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 , having won just one of the six games they have played. Jos Buttler and Co. started with a comprehensive defeat versus New Zealand before getting off the mark against Bangladesh. However, after that win, the team from Europe has been annihilated in four consecutive matches and is languishing at the bottom of the points table. Furthermore, to add to their woes the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Sunday that the top seven teams on the table after the end of the league phase along with hosts Pakistan will qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Therefore, England's dismal World Cup performance could have severe implications for their future. Dawid Malan, who is England's leading run-getter in the tournament thus far with 236 runs at 39.33, said that a lot is at stake in his team's three remaini

(Photo by Gareth Copley/Getty Images) India continued their purple patch in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as they defeated England by 100 runs in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29 to climb to the top of the points table. Rohit Sharma orchestrated India's sixth win on the trot in the marquee event with an exceptional knock of 87 off 101 balls on a tricky surface. He started the game strongly, hitting boundaries at will but curbed his aggressive instincts and played to the situation after losing Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession. Michael Vaughan lauded the 36-year-old for adjusting his game according to the match situation and soaking the pressure created by the English bowlers. "The captain set the foundation. India were in a precarious position at 30 for 3 and were under pressure. He got together with KL Rahul. Rohit’s mindset is to be aggressive, be positive, try and hit the boundaries, but he realised that he had

After some attention from the physiotherapist, Shadab walked off the field as a precaution for a concussion injury. However, seeing his injury, Gul had his doubts. “We dont know what kind of injury he had, but several questions are raised. 'It might have affected the team' - Shakib Al Hasan on verbal tussle with Tamim Iqbal affecting team morale in CWC 2023

Shakib Al Hasan. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Bangladesh's woes in the ODI World Cup 2023 continued as they lost their fifth straight game in the competition on Saturday, October 28 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Scott Edwards-led Netherlands defeated the Asian side by 87 runs in a low-scoring contest at the iconic venue. After the defeat, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan admitted that his verbal tussle with Tamim Iqbal prior to the start of the marquee event could have affected the morale of the players in his team. For the unversed, Tamim was excluded from Bangladesh's 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup on fitness grounds. However, the southpaw later revealed that he had asked the selectors to not pick him after being asked by a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) member to relinquish his opening slot and bat in the middle order. Shakib publicly termed Tamim's behaviour as childish. “It might have affected the team. It’s not unusual. You don’t know what an individual has i

Cameron Green. (Photo Source: Twitter) Australia and New Zealand are set to lock horns in a crucial ODI World Cup 2023 clash in Dharamsala on Saturday, October 28. The two captains, Pat Cummins and Tom Latham, announced one change each to their playing XIs. While a fit-again Travis Head replaced all-rounder Cameron Green in the Australian side, James Neesham returned to the Kiwi playing XI in place of Mark Chapman, who has a 'calf niggle', as stated by Latham. For the unversed, Head fractured his left hand during the ODI series against South Africa prior to the World Cup. He was set to miss the first few matches in the marquee event but the Aussie selectors kept him in the squad because of the surreal form he has shown in 2023. Mitchell Marsh did relatively well during his stint as David Warner's opening partner in Head;s absence, however, there was no doubt about Head reprising his role once he recovered from his injury. Image
Pak vs SA (Photo Source: X(Twitter) As South Africa defeated Pakistan in game 26 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, there were a lot of moments that came to the forefront and were branded as controversial. The same was the case when star batter Aiden Markram was not given out after walking well out of the crease. A short ball from Haris Rauf missed Markram and landed with a bounce straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Mohammed Rizwan. Bowing his head towards the ground and grinning, Markram made sure to tap his foot in the crease and walk up the pitch. At the same moment, Rizwan under-armed the ball back towards the direction of both the wickets and Rauf, and when the ball struck the stumps, Markram was well out of his ground. However, the ace batter was not given out, as there was no appeal made by the Pakistan team. Furthermore, there were doubts over whether the fielding side believed the ball to be in play or not. The ball would have been considered dead, and Markram would

Interestingly enough, the secret to his mind-boggling fitness which has kept the 'run machine' going in the ongoing World Cup has been finally revealed. (Photo Source: Getty Images) The  MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is all set to host another thrilling match in the 2023 ODI World Cup as Pakistan (PAK) takes on South Africa (SA) on Friday, October 27. Pakistan began their campaign with impressive victories against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Babar Azam's team created history by successfully chasing down the highest target in World Cups when they played against Sri Lanka. However, their winning streak came to an end with a disappointing seven-wicket loss to their arch-rivals India at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pakistan then lost against the formidable Australian team in their fourth match as their bowling and fielding performance was below par. In their last match, they were defeated by Afghanistan and now they would be eager to improve their performance in this crucial clash against South Africa. ODI World Cup 2023: Steve Smith reveals technical tweaks that helped him overcome brief slump

Steve Smith. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Steve Smith is regarded as one of the finest players in modern-day cricket. He is one of the special Australian players who is equally adept at playing pace as well as spin. Therefore, the right-handed batter was expected to make a big impact during the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 , which is being held exclusively in India for the first time. However, his start to the campaign wasn't promising, as he scored just 72 runs in the first four innings. Like most legendary batters, Smith went back to the drawing board, worked hard in the nets, made technical adjustments, and showed his class with a fluent 68-ball 71 against the Netherlands in Delhi, on Wednesday. Smith revealed that using the traditional leg-stump guard and switching his grip from bottom to top-handed facilitated his return to form. "I moved back to leg stump a little bit. I got my hands a little bit higher than what they've been for the last week. For some reason, they

Image
Steve Smith. (Photo Source: Pankaj Nangia/Getty Images) The ongoing ODI World Cup has been full of ups and downs for Pat Cummins-led Australia. Getting off to a horrid start to the tournament, Australia failed to register a win in their first two games of the season, losing to India and South Africa. However, the Men in Yellow managed to win their next two games and get back into the top four in the points table. As the tournament progresses, one of the biggest concerns for the side would be the form of veteran batter Steve Smith. Smith looked to be in the flow in the first game against India; however, he has failed to go big ever since then. Speaking of the same, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra opined that Smith’s form could be a cause of concern for the Aussies, and his performances could be key for them if they are looking to progress further into the tournament.  "Australia have won two matches, so they have got the momentum now. There was no such plan. It was a normal plan. No bowler had the intention to bowl a wide ball. We tried to play a proper game. It was not intentional,” Shanto said in a press conference.
