Jhye Richardson’s Sheffield Shield return delayed following shoulder dislocation

Australian cricketer Jhye Richardson’s lengthy spell of injuries continue, as the 27-year-old recently dislocated his shoulder. The pacer injured himself while fielding for Western Australia in a second XI game against South Australia in Adelaide.

Making a successful comeback in the Marsh Cup in September 2023 after returning from hamstring surgery, Richardson was all set to make his return in the Sheffield Shield. His first game of the tournament after his return would have been against South Australia as well.

Scoring 85 runs against South Australia in the second XI clash, Richardson bowled eight overs in the game.  However, his feature was quickly cut short after he dived in the field, which saw him dislocate his right shoulder. According to ESPNcricinfo, the dislocation is not as serious as one thought, and the pacer will only be out for a few weeks.

It is worth noting that Richardson is one of the unluckiest players in world cricket when it comes to injuries. He had dislocated his shoulder earlier in 2019, and he even had surgeries done on said shoulder after several other dislocations.

Furthermore, shortly after returning to international cricket in the latter stages of 2021, many soft tissue injuries, including one in the hamstring, saw him miss out for a long time. The Australian will now be focused on making his comeback as soon as possible.

Australia look to recoup at the 2023 World Cup

Speaking of Australia, the side is currently competing in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The Men in Yellow failed to perform as expected in the early stages of the tournament, however, their recent performances could have made the fans hopeful. 

Australia have played four games in the 2023 World Cup so far, and the side has managed to win two and lose two. They took on India and South Africa in their first two games, where they succumbed to hefty losses. After the setback, they registered back-to-back wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. For their next assignment, the Pat Cummins-led side faces off against the Netherlands.
