Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman seems poised to make a comeback to competitive cricket following a period of rest after he was subjected to a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on Wednesday, March 12. The left-arm pacer went unsold during the recent player transfer process of the country's premier domestic List A competition, the Dhaka Premier League.

For the unversed, the PRP treatment comprises of a concentrated volume of a patient's own platelets into a targeted zone in a bid to accelerate tissue repair and ease inflammation. This process also helps in reducing pain. This procedure is a minimally-invasive one and is quite commonly used in sports medicine.

A member of the medical unit of the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the developments, as per a report by Cricbuzz, while sharing that he had not sustained a fresh injury.

"He (Mustafizur) was given a PRP injection, and now, he will need some rest before returning to the field. Mustafizur is not having any new injury, but the left-shoulder that was operated earlier causes problem at times, and he manages that (discomfort) and plays. Usually, the PRP injections are used for stimulating healing and to reduce pain through regeneration," stated the member of the medical unit of the BCB, as per Cricbuzz.

It was earlier learnt that Mustafizur was expected to return to competitive cricket via the ongoing edition of the DPL. According to the same report, the seasoned quick might opt to represent Prime Bank Cricket Club in the DPL.

"Let us see when he gets fit and later, if we can have him within our budget, certainly we will go for him," an official of Prime Bank Cricket Club told the same sports news outlet.

Mustafizur last featured for Bangladesh in the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy. He went unsold in the mega auction for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. With a few franchises grappling with injuries and the non-availability of players, he could be in with a shot of playing IPL 2025.
