'Process-driven' New Zealand look to switch on Test mode in spin-friendly Bangladesh

Despite playing only ODI cricket in the last two months, New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips believes the team won’t have any problem switching to red-ball cricket when they take on Bangladesh in a two-match series. Phillips mentioned that everyone in the team believes in the process and hence, irrespective of the format, they will give their best to get a positive outcome.

Notably, most of the players featuring in the Test series were also part of the ODI World Cup, where New Zealand lost to India by 70 runs in the semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On top of that, the Tim Southee-led side hasn’t played a single Test match in close to the last nine months and hence, it can prove to be difficult for the Kiwi cricketers, especially playing away from home, in the spin-friendly conditions in Bangladesh. 

However, the all-rounder dismissed the case and mentioned that the boys got a bit of rest and spent time with the family and are now ready to go. Phillips also added that it doesn’t matter whether it’s a red or white ball, it’s just to go out in the park and play the best possible cricket.

“At the end of the day, a lot of the boys are really process-driven. Whether it's Test cricket or other, the process remains the same. When you go to the field, it's just a game with either a white or red ball. For us, it's to go in the middle and follow our process the way we are (doing) now.

“It was good for the guys to be in Dubai for a couple of days. It refreshed us and some of us went home to see the families. It was really good I think before a Test series, especially after the World Cup to have this sort of break and come out here refreshed,” Phillips was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. 

Meanwhile, the two-match Test series will begin on November 28 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium while the second Test will be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
