Star India opener Shubman Gill is likely to miss the side's second clash against Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on October 11 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi. However, he will travel with the team to the stadium. Even though he will be benched during the match, he has no plans to return to his hometown for rest.

Gill has been recovering from dengue fever since he reached Chennai. The 24-year-old is progressing well but missed India's opening match against Australia at Chepauk, which they won by six wickets.

"Shubman Gill is recovering and he will be traveling with the team to Delhi. He will be with the team and is not likely to go to his home in Chandigarh for rest. We hope that he will be back on the field before the match against Pakistan, and playing against Afghanistan will depend on his next medical report," a source said as quoted by Times of India.

India beat Australia by six wickets

Speaking of the game, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first. David Warner and Steven Smith were key for Australia, producing a crucial 69-run partnership for the second wicket. However, once Smith was dismissed, the Kangaroos battled against the opposition bowlers.

Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of bowlers, who helped India limit the five-time champions to a paltry score of 199 in 50 overs. The spin all-rounder finished with figures of 3/28 while Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets each.

India got off to the worst possible start during the chase as they faced early setbacks as Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed for ducks, with India reeling at 2/3. However, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul steadied India's innings, scoring 85 and 97* runs respectively as they chased down the target in 41.2 overs.

The pair anchored a solid 165-run partnership, the highest fourth wicket stand in ODI history to steer India to a six-wicket victory over Pat Cummins and Co.
