He became the second Indian player after Pravin Tambe to play in the tournament after he announced his retirement from international and Indian domestic cricket following the IPL 2023 final, which he won with Chennai Super Kings.  Signed as a marquee player by St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN), the right-handed batter had a forgettable start as he got out for a duck in his first innings. He played a couple of more innings and scored 32 and 15. Now, the 37-year-old has decided to return home due to personal reasons. Rayudu finished with an average of 15.66 and a strike rate of 117.50. Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani, who was also with the Patriots, is set to leave early owing to personal reasons. He played three games and picked up a solitary wicket, going at an economy rate in excess of 10. Rayudu and Muzarabani have been replaced by Englishm

Blackcaps (Photo Source: Twitter) New Zealand Cricket (NZC) recently came forward to announce Scott Weenink as their new chief executive of the board. It is worth noting that Weenink was on the New Zealand Cricket Players Association board, and he will step down from the role after his new appointment. Weenink played first-class cricket for most of his career, playing 12 first-class and seven List-A games for Wellington between 1995 and 1997. David White, who was the previous chief executive of the board, announced in May 2023, that he would be stepping down from the role in August, after being in charge for more than ten years. White represented the Black Caps in three ODIs and two Tests, respectively. As a result, the 61-year-old is only the fourth chief to represent New Zealand cricket after the Hood Report recommendations were adopted by the coveted cricket governance body, back in 1995. Like last year, PCB has decided to award central contracts to 20 players, who are divided into four categories, denoted as A, B, C, and D. The 'D' category is for emerging players. Interestingly, the new contracts will be valid for a duration of 23 months and not the usual one-year period. The term begins on August 1, 2023 and will end on June 30, 2025. According to a PCB release, the performance of the players will be assessed after a year. Nineteen players signed the contracts in Karachi where they are currently preparing for a white-ball series against South Africa. Eyman Fatima signed on the dotted lines in Lahore as she is not a part of the squad for the series against Proteas. Former captain Bismah Maroof and current

Team India will begin its Asia Cup 2023 campaign by taking on Pakistan, on September 2, in Kandy. Speaking of the same, team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid came forward to reveal the side’s plan on how they will be easing Bumrah into their squad slowly at first. Dravid opined that the recently concluded series against Ireland was a good start for Bumrah, and now they have an entire month to ease Bumrah into the lineup ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 .  "It&

Rohit Sharma. (Photo Source: Disney+Hotstar) Current India skipper Rohit Sharma was incredible in the last edition of the ODI World Cup. The opener hit 648 runs in nine matches and finished as the leading run-scorer of the tournament. Thus, ahead of the upcoming edition of the tournament, the cricketer wants to get back into the same phase and help the national team win the title, as the tournament is slated to begin on October 5. Speaking about the tournament, Rohit mentioned that he was very relaxed and was in good shape and mindset ahead of the World Cup and is recollecting all these to apply the same in the 2023 edition of the competition. Notably, Rohit will feel the pressure this time around, especially with India not winning a single ICC trophy in the last ten years. On top of that, playing on home turf will only add extra pressure. Hence, the skipper wants to prepare mentally well ahead of that. “For me, it is important how I keep myself relaxed and not worry about extern

Yuzvendra Chahal. (Photo Source: Twitter) Yuzvendra Chahal has been one of the unluckiest players in world cricket who stays with the Indian team throughout the year but does not get to showcase his skills at the all-important ICC events. The leg-spinner was surprisingly left out of the 2021 T20 World Cup squad as the selectors picked the inexperienced Varun Chakaravarthy instead. Chahal was a part of the 2022 T20 World Cup but did not get a game. It seems that Chahal is set to miss playing in yet another ICC event and this time it will the ODI World Cup, which begins on October 5. Prior to the World Cup, India will play in the Asia Cup, which starts on August 30. Chahal was shockingly excluded from the side as chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that they are keeping an eye on the balance of the side. It is believed that Axar Patel, who is a part of the squad, was picked ahead of Chahal for his better batting ability. Captain Rohit Sharma, mentioned that it is not the end of the

Harry Brook. (Photo Source: Twitter) The ODI World Cup 2023 is right around the corner; the marquee tournament is all set to begin on October 5, and the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) recently came forward to announce their provisional squad for the upcoming tournament. As the squad was announced, it came as a big shock to many that youngster Harry Brook was not included in the lineup. Being 24 years old, Brook has well established himself as one of the biggest prospects in world cricket, and with his record across formats, he was not included in the provisional squad.  It could be due to the decision of all-rounder Ben Stokes to reverse his retirement to compete in the World Cup that Brook missed out on the squad. Former English skipper Eoin Morgan was of a similar opinion. Morgan stated that he could not fit Brook into the squad no matter what, and that is what happens when a team has depth in its lineup.  "In really good teams that have a lot of talent, but mainl

Pakistan tweak Asia Cup squad, add in-form Saud Shakeel

Image
Saud Shakeel (Image source: Twitter) Saud Shakeel played five ODIs in his first stint but didn't manage to impress. However, his Test career started on a completely different note and after seven matches, he has a staggering average of 87.5. It was a surprise to many when the Southpaw wasn't named in Pakistan's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Instead, he was picked in the squad for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. Pakistan fans wanted Saud to get some chances against Afghanistan to prove his mettle in the white-ball format. They felt that with the World Cup starting in just over a month, having an in-form batter like Saud in the mix could bode well for the former champions. The team management, however, opted to go in with Iftikhar Ahmed for the first two ODIs against Afghanistan which the 'Men in Green' won and the left-handed batter only came in for the inconsequential third ODI on Saturday, August 26. He looked in good touch but

He also apologized to his former teammate and his family regarding the same. Notably, with news spreading thick and fast, Streak himself invalidated the rumors of his death and also expressed his distress over the misinformation spreading on social media, stating that he was 'very upset and hurt'. However, Olonga later clarified that Streak is alive, sharing a screenshot of the chat between them. However, the news had gone viral by that time. Meanwhile, Olonga on Saturday (August 26) took to his Facebook account and shared a long apology note, stating he is extremely sorry over the deceitful news. (Photo source: Getty Images) Former Australia skipper Tim Paine stated that he has heard rumours of the team management trying out David Warner at number four in the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin on October 5 in India. In the ODI series against the Men in Blue earlier this year, Warner batted at number four while the team preferred Travis Head to open alongside Mitchell Marsh. Paine expects something similar to happen this time around as Australia are gearing up for the mega tournament. When it comes to the southpaw, Warner has hit seven half-centuries in 16 appearances for Australia in ODI cricket. Despite so, the team management is considering changing his spot is quite unusual but Paine clarified the reason behind it. He mentioned that the team wants a quick start and hence, they prefer Marsh and Head to open the innings and he totally understands and supports the decision. “Now that’s something I have heard,” Paine said of Warner batting at f

(Photo by MONEY SHARMA/AFP/Getty Images) Legendary India batter Virender Sehwag believes that Rohit Sharma will do well in the much-awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The tournament is scheduled to be contested in India from October 5 to November 19, with the 2019 World Cup finalists England and New Zealand playing the curtain raiser at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the hosts will open their campaign against the five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Despite India getting knocked out in the semifinal, Rohit has had an impressive campaign in the 2019 edition, as he finished on top of the run charts and also smashed five centuries. He amassed a total of 648 runs from nine matches at an astonishing average of 81.00 during the last edition of the showpiece event. Speaking to ICC (International Cricket Council), Sehwag stated that the opening batters will score a lot of runs in

There's still a chance for Harry Brook to make it to World Cup, says Jos Buttler

Harry Brook. (Photo Source: Alex Davidson/Getty Images) England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler believes that young sensation Harry Brook is just unfortunate to not be in the ODI squad and the moment and added that he can still make it to the ODI World Cup final squad if an opportunity arrives. He has been replaced by red-ball skipper Ben Stokes, who announced his ODI retirement last year. However, after a fruitful discussion with the ECB, Stokes has confirmed his return but will not be bowling in the 50-overs format as he is currently dealing with a knee problem. On the other hand, Brook remains on the radar of the selectors. Recently, he played a blistering knock of 105 runs in 42 deliveries in the  Hundred 2023 and since then, he has been the talk of the town. Thus, Buttler was eventually asked about Brook’s absence from the national team, to which the skipper lauded the middle-order batter for his recent performances and assured him that he is in the scheme of things. “There&

As the squad was announced, one of the most talked-about points was the inclusion of youngster Tilak Varma in the lineup.  The 20-year-old impressed with his performances when he made his international debut recently in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies. However, despite being named in the Asia Cup squad, it is still unclear whether Varma will feature for India in the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on August 30.  Seeing his selection in the side, former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth came forward to reflect on the same. (Photo Source : Twitter) The fast-bowling duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad gave many top batters sleepless nights amd their potential to run through batting lineups was a sight to behold for cricket enthusiasts. The latter had a fantastic Ashes series where he ended as the highest wicket-taker for England. The 37-year-old played his last international game at Kennington Oval, London in the fifth Ashes Test and took the wicket of Alex Carey off his final delivery for England. Anderson, who is 41 years old, is still a part of the England setup and Broad hoped that the legendary seamer would take his Test wickets tally to 700 in the near future. The Burnley-born currently has 690 wickets. "He’s got some wickets to take. Kate Cross. (Photo Source: Gareth Copley - ECB/ECB via Getty Images) Very few tournaments in world cricket have gone on to make a greater impact on the women’s game than The Hundred Women’s. Over the years, the tournament has made a big impact on women’s sports by providing them with a platform to take their game to the next level.  It is clear that the crowd's support has grown significantly as well. However, recently, there have been rumours that the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) has been pondering the possibility of scrapping The Hundred and replacing it with a T20 league. With the rumours fueling up in recent months, English pacer Kate Cross came forward to opine that she does not understand the origin of such rumours. Cross opined that The Hundred Women has done so much for the game with the extensive crowd support and stated that the people who do not watch the tournament have a louder opinion than the people who do.  "I don't understand it, I don'

I don't think Rohit Sharma should be looking to bat down the order, can look at having Virat Kohli at No. 4: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ishan Kishan has been in terrific form in One-Day International (ODI) cricket. He scored his first ODI double-century against Bangladesh in December 2022 and in the recently-concluded series against the West Indies, the wicketkeeper-batter notched up three consecutive half-centuries to bag Player of the Series award. These consistent performances from Ishan must have given the Indian team management a selection headache, as they are struggling to find a spot for the youngster in the playing XI. Ravi Shastri, in a recent interview, said that India could open with Ishan and Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup, while Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli can come in to bat after them. Sunil Gavaskar, however, disagreed with this opinion, as the legendary batter felt that disturbing the opening combination of Rohit and Shubman might not be the right idea. Instead, the 74-year-old suggested that Virat might be moved down to No. 4 i
