England's head coach, Brendon McCullum, encountered an obstacle while trying to enter Headingley during the ongoing third Test. Reports suggest that McCullum, the current red-ball coach of England, engaged in a brief stand-off with a security guard on Thursday due to a missing pass. The security guard failed to recognize McCullum and a companion, leading to a case made for their entry based on its significance to the England team.
Amid concerns of disruptions by Just Stop Oil protestors, security at Headingley was heightened. On the opening day of the Headingley Test, two individuals were denied access after being intercepted and searched. They were found wearing Just Stop Oil t-shirts under their jackets and carrying suspicious bags, raising alarms and leading to their exclusion from the venue.
These incidents occurred close to Gate E at around 10 am, prompting increased security measures at Headingley due to previous disruptions at sporting events. For instance, Just Stop Oil protestors caused interruptions at The Wimbledon, with play being halted twice.
Similarly, during the previous Ashes Test at Lord's, two protestors invaded the field, throwing orange powder on the wicket. The World Snooker Championship also faced disruption when an activist climbed onto a table, spreading orange powder, and another attempted to affix themselves to a neighbouring table.
The third Test match between Australia and England is finely balanced at present. At the close of play on Day 2, Australia held a lead of 142 runs with six wickets still intact. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh, are currently at the crease with 18 and 17 runs, respectively.
As the third day commences, the Australian batters will aim to establish a solid partnership, while England will seek to dismiss the Australian innings as quickly as possible. It is important to note that England are currently trailing in the series by 0-2, and they desperately need a victory in this match to keep their hopes alive in the five-match series.
