As Australia won the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston by etching out a narrow victory against England by two wickets, there were many talking points from the game. However, many of the discussed topics revolved around English pacer Ollie Robinson, who captured many headlines with his antics throughout the game.

From his sledging at Usman Khawaja to the No. 11 remark to Australia’s lower order, Robinson had much to say after the first Test of the Ashes 2023. Australia were bundled out for 386 in their first innings, and the English bowling attack bowled a flurry of bouncers to put Australia’s lower order under pressure on Day 3.

The tactic worked, as England claimed Australia’s last four wickets for just 14 runs in the first innings. Reflecting on the same, Robinson opined that the bouncer barrage was something that England had discussed as a group as the lower order of Australia were just No.11 batters.

Hearing Robinson’s comments, Australia veteran Nathan Lyon gave a humorous response, stating that he was indeed a No. 11 batter and that he was unable to bat there due to Josh Hazlewood.

"To be honest with you, I am a no.11. It's just that Josh won't let me bat no.11. That's all a bit of banter and I've got absolutely no dramas with that," Lyon was quoted as saying by IndiaToday

However, Lyon seemed to prove Robinson’s comments about minimal contributions wrong, as, alongside skipper Pat Cummins, the 35-year-old formed a sensational partnership that was crucial to Australia winning the first Test match. Both batters came in to bat when Australia were struggling under England’s relentless bowling attack.

Lyon scored an unbeaten 16 runs in 28 balls, whereas Cummins amassed 44* runs in 73 deliveries. Their crucial partnership in the lower order helped the Aussies register a magnificent win by two wickets in Edgbaston as they got off to the perfect start in the Ashes 2023.
