Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), said that the 2023 Asia Cup deadlock will be broken shortly when the board presidents of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will visit Ahmedabad during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final. The IPL final will be held on Sunday, May 28, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Shah confirmed that the chief of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will meet in Ahmedabad during the IPL final to discuss the future of the tournament. The continental championship is set to take place in September 2023 and will be hosted by Pakistan. Notably, India are unwilling to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
“The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023,” Shah was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Dubai would be houseful for India vs Pakistan game: Sethi
Earlier in May, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi stated that the PCB is seeking an official answer from ACC on its proposed 'hybrid model' for the Asia Cup as the host. He stated that the PCB is open to playing India at a neutral venue, ideally in Dubai, where gate money would be higher.
“My understanding was that there were apprehensions on whether the neutral venue would be in Dubai or not. I was reluctant to host it in Sri Lanka as being the host; the gate money should come to us. Dubai, on the other hand, would be houseful for the India vs Pakistan game, and there’s also a good gate fee,” Sethi told Sportstar last week.
