The former veteran Australia cricketer and commentator Michael Slater has been accused of obstructing and assaulting the Queensland Police after an alleged domestic violence incident on Friday. Notably, the incident took place in Moosa, a resort town in Queensland, which came into the limelight a few months back involving another Australian cricketer. The concerned authorities received a call at midnight to a Noosa Heads address with regard to a domestic violence case. Moreover, the police claim that it involved medical matters as well.

In the latest update from the Queensland police, Slater tried to obstruct and assault a police officer. As a result, the officer was left with a small cut on their hand. However, barring the officer, no other persons were physically injured.

"The man is expected to appear before Noosa Magistrates Court on May 2. As the matter is domestic violence and medical in nature, for privacy reasons no further information will be provided," police told Australian Associated Press (AAP) in a statement.

Notably, the 53-year-old cricketer is charged with two counts of obstructing the police along with a charge of assaulting the police on March 31.

Former Australian Cricketer Michael Slater was involved in a fight with a patient last year

This was not the first time Slater has been involved in an altercation. Back in July last year, he was involved in a physical fight with another patient while he was visiting the Northern Beaches Hospital for his treatment related to mental health issues. Furthermore, he was charged with intimidating the man during the fight.

Two months later, as per court, Slater had allegedly breached a restraining order imposed to protect a woman living in the Freshwater region. He was charged with using a carriage service with the intent to intimidate the patient. Consequently, in November 2022, after several charges were slapped on the cricketer, his lawyer John Agius SC moved to court and requested the authorities to dismiss Seven charges to be dissolved on mental health grounds. Notably, the lawyer claimed that Michael Slater was undergoing rehabilitation along with treatment for the bipolar medical condition. Additionally, lawyers also added that the 53-year-old also suffers from a borderline personality disorder and alcohol abuse disorder as well.

Meanwhile, speaking of Slater's cricket career, the Aussie featured in 74 Tests for Cricket Australia, whereby he scored 5312 runs at an average of 42.83. He made his debut in 1993 during the Ashes tour of England. The opener also appeared in 42 one-day internationals scoring just under 1000 runs before retiring from major cricket in 2004. Thereafter, Slater took up a commentary career with channel Seven and Nine networks.
