The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is well underway, and with the tournament in full swing, Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler returned as well. With 863 runs in 17 matches in 2022, Butter was the IPL orange cap holder in the previous edition of the competition.

Furthermore, the swashbuckling English batter has picked up right where he left off in the ongoing season as well. With 244 runs in six games, Buttler is one of the frontrunners to grab the orange cap this season as well. However, despite his excellent performances on the pitch, the 32-year-old has been subject to much criticism over the years.

Recently, Buttler came forward to talk about the same. He opened up about the importance of blocking out outside noise and accepting that the criticism one receives is just the experts doing their jobs.

Speaking to Humans of Bombay on their YouTube show, ‘How the Hell Did I do it’, Buttler said,

"Acceptance is a big part. Accepting that broadcaster pays someone to give their opinion. They’re just doing their job. It’s not a personal attack on me when they criticise me. And I watch other sports. I watch football and go, ‘oh how did he miss that?! ‘So easy. That’s exactly what people are doing when I drop a catch or go for a low score. I do exactly same thing without realising it while watching other sports. Just acceptance."

Understanding how it feels to win a world Cup four years ago gives you the drive to do it again: Buttler

Jos Buttler touched upon a variety of topics in his interview. The English opener also reflected on his side’s chances at the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in the latter stages of 2023. England would be coming into the tournament as the defending champions, and the side would be keen on putting on a successful title defence in the forthcoming competition.

"Understanding how it feels to win a World Cup four years ago gives you the drive to do it again. India’s one of the best places to play cricket. So it’s going to be huge. Once the IPL finishes, attention will start to switch towards that. England has a strong talent pool. Cricket’s gone from strength to strength from 2015 onwards. We’re a good team, a balanced side. We look forward to the tournament, " Buttler said.
