Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to undergo surgery after arriving in New Zealand according to the latest report by Sports Tak. The star Indian cricketer, who has been on the sidelines due to a back issue, was ruled out of the upcoming edition of the IPL due to his much-maligned back injury.

The Indian cricketer was rumoured to be on his way to New Zealand in a report earlier this week, seeking surgery on his back injury. According to the latest report, renowned Kiwi surgeon Rowan Schouten, who has had a history of helping out high-profile cricketers, will be operating on Jasprit Bumrah.

While the Mumbai Indians' star will most certainly miss the upcoming edition of the IPL, his participation in the WTC final, if India qualifies, is also in doubt. The Indian pacer is expected to be in New Zealand for a while after his surgery and will return to India to continue his post-surgery rehab, ruling him out of the action for 4-5 months.

The BCCI officials were hopeful that the Indian star would be available for the WTC final at the Oval in June later this year, but the latest news suggests that India will have to wait for Bumrah's return for some time. Given the expected time frame of his return, Bumrah could be making his return to the team ahead of the 50-over World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by India later this year.

For the unintiated, the 29 year old bowling ace was expected to make his return to the team in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Series between India and Australia. However, the team management refrained to take any chances on his fitness, leaving him out of the Test series. He was also scheduled to take part in IPL 2023, but a visit to the NCA revealed that the pacer was in need of back surgery and was ruled out of the premiere franchise league.
