Australia's Marnus Labuschagne is amidst the form of his life in the longest format of the game. His mastery with the bat was on display in the recently concluded Test series against the West Indies, where the batting ace accumulated 502 runs in just two matches. Labuschagne has revealed that becoming a father has helped him take time off cricket, which is an obsession for the Aussie cricketer.
Marnus Lanuchagne, the no.1 Test batter in the ICC rankings has revealed his obsession for the game as the driving force behind his success. However, the 28-year-old remarked that becoming a father has changed his perspective in life as he takes time off the game whenever he is around his family.
"I am who I am is because I am obsessed, and I am obsessive, I love to try and get better each time and each day. I think that part, hopefully, it never stops for me because I think that's what makes me who I am.
"Becoming a dad has probably helped me switch off a little bit from the game when I'm at home. When my family's with me, certainly the two differences between when they were with me in Perth to when they weren't with me in Adelaide. I got to bed a lot later in Adelaide, and I was watching a lot more cricket videos at night," Labuschagne said on Wednesday.
The Australian star is looking forward to the impending Test series against the Proteas. It is a fairytale match-up for the ace batter as he would be lining up against the country of his birth in his adopted home city of Brisbane in the first Test. Labuschagne was born in Klerksdorp, South Africa, and moved to Australia as a 10-year-old, idolizing the likes of Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Mike Hussey, and Damien Martyn.
"But I certainly think it's always exciting what this Test holds because it is a little bit closer to my heart because it's the country where I grew up and where I spent 10 years of my life," he added.
