Bangladesh have announced a 17-member squad for the first of the upcoming two-match Test series against India. Veteran batter and opener Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the opening game as he is yet to recover from injury that he sustained just before the ongoing ODI series between the two sides. Uncapped top-order batter Zakir Hasan has earned his maiden call-up in the side to replace Tamim.
Zakir recently impressed in the first unofficial Test against India A scoring a brilliant 173 in the second innings that helped the home team earn a well-fought draw. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim has also made his comeback to the Test side after missing out on the recent assignment against West Indies in the format. Taskin Ahmed, who missed the ODI series, has been declared fit as well.
BCB hopeful of Tamim getting fit for 2nd Test
As for Tamim Iqbal's recovery period, BCB Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin stated that the management is hopeful of the experienced batter getting fit for the second and final Test. "Our physio said he won't be able to play in the first Test. But we are awaiting the medical report for the second Test. So, we've announced the squad for the opening Test.
"As for Zakir we feel he is performing regularly in domestic cricket to earn a spot in the Test squad," Minhajul said according to Cricbuzz. The first Test between Bangladesh and India is set to commence on December 14 in Chattogram while Dhaka will play hosts to the second Test starting from December 22.
As far as the ongoing ODI series is concerned, Bangladesh have already sealed the three-match contest with a 2-0 lead. Both matches went down the wire with the home side winning by one wicket and five runs. They will be looking to whitewash India for the first time in history.
