Batters are historically known to be reluctant to bat in the final hour of play in Test cricket. Over the years, we have seen numerous batters use their mind and engage themselves in time-wasting tactics, just to while away time and get to the end of the day's play.
A similar incident was on display when Bangladesh left-handed batter Zakir Hasan tried to waste time while he was at the non-striker's end and deliberately halted the momentum of play on Day 2 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
With Ravichandran Ashwin trying to quickly bag a breakthrough for team India in the dying moments of play on Day 2, the Bangladesh opener Zakir tried to retie his shoelaces while standing at the non-striker's end. The incident didn't go unnoticed and he (Zakir) received a stern response from Virat Kohli who was standing at first slip.
Kohli was heard saying on the stump mic, "Zakir, kapda nikal do kapda (Zakir take off your jersey (upper))". It was not the only incident when a Bangladesh batter tried to waste time on Day 2. Earlier, the other opener Najmul Hossain Shanto also pulled off a similar trick off his sleeve when he asked for a change of bat, tried a few and then ended up going ahead with the same one that he was using earlier.

India's stand-in skipper KL Rahul was seen complaining about the same to the on-field umpires too. All these brainy tactics did help both Bangladesh openers as they managed to survive on Day 2 and returned to the dressing room unscathed.
Asked for change of bat and took the same bat 😂

Well done shanto, you succeeded in wasting the time

Currently, Bangladesh are leading by 91 runs (at the time of writing this news article) and have three wickets left in their kitty. Litton Das, who has already scored a half century, is batting alongside Taskin Ahmed and would love to convert Bangladesh's lead into a sizeable one and create problems for India batters in the fourth innings.
