Following a commanding victory in the first Test match in Perth, the Australian team have announced their squad for the upcoming Test in Adelaide. With Pat Cummins' availability a doubt for the pink-ball Adelaide Test against the West Indies, Lance Morris, and Michael Neser have been added to the Australian squad.
Pat Cummins, who sustained an injury during the Test series opener against the West Indies, did not bowl in the second innings of the recently concluded match and is a doubt for the second Test. The 29-year-old was seen moving gingerly in the field, casting further doubt on his involvement in the pink-ball Test.
The team management decided to bolster the fast bowling department by including 24-year-old fast bowling sensation Lance Morris into the squad for the second Test, along with Michael Neser. Morris has been in terrific form for Western Australia, scalping 27 wickets in this year's Sheffield Shield, the most this season by any bowler. The paceman regularly clocks over 150kmph in the domestic circuit, making him one of the most rapid bowlers in the country by some distance.
"Michael (Neser) has been with the squad on a regular basis in past seasons and was simply outstanding in Adelaide last summer. He has continued to perform incredibly consistently since and will be warmly welcomed back. Lance is another of the outstanding young fast bowlers coming through the ranks. He has genuine pace and his ability to create opportunities for wickets is a real drawcard. It will be a great experience for him to come into the environment,"Australia's chairman of selection, George Bailey, said after the conclusion of the first Test.
Although Morris' raw pace makes him a front-runner to replace Cummins for the second Test, Scott Boland will be higher in the pecking order after his heroics in the Ashes earlier this year.
