Thailand cricketers didn’t hold back their celebration after a historic win over Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Opener Natthakan Chantham, who played for Trailblazers in the Women’s T20 challenge and WBBL, was brilliant in the match and scored a whopping 61 off 51 balls to help her team register their biggest win in their cricketing history.

Batting first, the Pakistan team posted 116 runs on board after the 20 overs. Opener Sidra Ameen played a vital knock of 56 runs but the inconsistency in the middle order did not help them. In the end Thailand did look like losing their grip but Rosenan Kanoh’s innings towards the end changed the complexion of the game.

As soon as Nattaya Boochatham hit the winning runs with just one ball left, the Thailand dressing room broke into wild celebration as the entire team went running down the pitch.

Thailand players in frenzy after the memorable win

Thailand were quite determined in their approach and put on a 40-run partnership for the first wicket. Tuba Hassan picked up the first scalp for Pakistan in the ninth over and two balls later, she dismissed Chanida Sutthiruang for a duck. Skipper Naruemol Chaiwai joined Chantham at the crease and the duo put together a crucial 42-run partnership for the third wicket.

While the bulk of the scoring was done by Chantham, Chaiwai was wise to get to the other end consistently. However, Pakistan got back into the game after Chaiwai was dismissed for 17 and the incoming batters could not make much of an impact after that. Chantham scored a fantastic half-century in the process, but she kept running out of partners. After a valiant effort, Chantham was dismissed for 61 off 51 balls in the 19th over.

However, she brought the required rate under control before her dismissal and Thailand needed ten off the last over to win the game. Rosenon Kanoh hit a priceless boundary and steered her side to victory with an unbeaten nine-run-knock to win the game by four wickets and one ball to spare.
