Iceland Cricket is known worldwide for its engagement with fans on social media and its quirky replies. The cricket body was overwhelmed with the support it received from around the world for one of their tweets that went viral recently.

Iceland Cricket have taken social media by storm with its impressive fan engagement and thereby growing their fanbase which would further help in recognition. Moreover, they are looking to put themselves on the cricketing map as they look to become a full-time ICC member nation as early as 2024/25.

Iceland Cricket made request to fans

Recently, Iceland Cricket took to their Twitter account to make a request to fans to help them get over 3,000 followers. The motive was to get more followers for themselves than the Iceland Football Team’s Twitter account. What followed was, just in few days time, they received over 11,000 followers with no signs of slowing down.

“We said we needed 3k more fans and you gave us 11k, and still growing! Crazy, amazing, beyond belief. We feel like we are in some kind of dreamworld, like the one this admin had when we beat England and had a NRR of +12.84,” tweeted Iceland Cricket.

“It's amazing that we only need another 3,000 Twitter followers and we will have more fans here than the Icelandic national football team. And every other sports institution and club here, needless to say,” they said in a separate tweet.

Interestingly, the tweets shared by them were loved by many Indian cricket fans who also helped the board garner followers.

Their national cricket team was formed in 2008 and later went on to participate in the 2016 Pepsi Cup which was organised in Prague. Finishing fifth out of the six competing sides, Iceland’s love for cricket grew stronger after that. The side will look to further grow their cricket and participate in international events organised by the ICC in the years to come.
