The T20 World Cup 2022 has got underway in Australia as Sri Lanka and Namibia locked horns in the first match of the First Round and Namibia caused a major upset by winning the game by 55 runs.

Eight sides participating in the First Round fixtures are vying for the four vacant spots in the Super 12 stage that will commence on October 22. Batting first, Namibia posted a competitive total of 163/7 in their 20 overs.

The African nation pulled off an impressive victory that will go down as a major upset in the history of the T20 World Cup. The Lankan Lions couldn't chase down the total and fell way short. The defeat is surely going to dent Sri Lanka's net run rate badly.

Sri Lanka concede runs in overthrow

During the course of the match, the Lankan Lions ended up conceding a run due to an overthrow that seemed unnecessary.

The incident took place in the ninth over of the clash between the two sides in the first innings, when Chamika Karunaratne bowled a good length ball to skipper Gerhard Erasmus leaving the latter confused. This was followed by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis unnecessarily throwing the ball that went past the pacer handing the rival side, a run.

Namibia looked hungry in the game and will fancy their chances going ahead in the touranment. Whereas Sri Lanka will need to get back to the drawing board and ponder how they can turn things around in order to make it to the Super 12.

The Lankan Lions play the UAE in their forthcoming fixture which will prove to be a decisive one considering the way they have conceded the first match to Namibia. On the contrary, the African nation are off to a flying start and look like one of the clear contenders to make it to the Super 12 stage of the tournament.
