The South African team led by Temba Bavuma subjected New Zealand to an embarrassing defeat by nine wickets in their opening warm-up fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. Unfortunately for the Proteas, their second game against Bangladesh was abandoned due to persistent rain. But batting ace Rilee Rossouw is confident about his side's chances ahead of the Super 12 stage of the tournament.

The Proteas are one of the dark horses of the 2022 T20 World Cup and they fired a warning shot to the remaining participants after hammering the Kiwis in their first warm-up match. Although the team hasn't had much game time Down Under, Rilee Rossouw feels the players are confident and ready since they have participated in plenty of white-ball cricket over the last couple of months.

"Unfortunately, it [the rain] is something that we can't control, but the guys did put in a good shift in training indoors, The team is very confident. We've played a lot of cricket over these last couple of weeks and months and, especially with all the franchise cricket that's been on, we've had a lot of game time. But the boys are ready for the first match," Rossouw said ahead of their opening match.

I'm hitting the ball well just before the World Cup: Rilee Rossouw

Ever since making his much-awaited return to the Protean side, Rossouw has been prolific with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 96 and 100 in his last six T20I outings. He was pleased with his form after compiling a brisk unbeaten half-century against a hapless Kiwi side in the warm-up match. The southpaw wished to carry his prolific form into the World Cup as South Africa eye a maiden World Cup title.

"It was pretty good for myself to score some runs and have some time in the middle. Any batter is going to like that, especially before a big tournament. It's very nice to carry on my form and to know that I'm hitting the ball well just before the World Cup," Rossouw added.
