Last year's runners-up, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh will be preparing for the T20 World Cup 2022 in a T20I tri-series that gets underway on Friday, October 7. The first match will be played between Asian rivals Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
New Zealand will be heading into this home T20I series on the back of having registered four successive bilateral series victories in the shortest format against the likes of Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands and the West Indies and they would be hoping to continue their dominance heading into the showpiece event in T20 cricket.
Pakistan on the other hand desperately need a series win in order to boost their morale heading into the T20 World Cup. They lost the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka last month despite crawling their way to the final with great difficulty and were beaten by England 3-4 in the recent seven-match series at home. The Men in Green have been miserably let down by their fragile middle-order.
Bangladesh are the weakest of the three sides having just managed victories against the likes of Oman, PNG, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and the UAE. With hardly any time left for the World Cup, the Bangladesh Tigers need to showcase a fearless intent against both New Zealand and Pakistan in order to do well in this tri-series. They would be led by the veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
