The Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup is upon fans as Australia hosts rival New Zealand in the second stage of the tournament. While the weather is predicted to play spoilsports in the upcoming fixtures, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma addressed the media ahead of their blockbuster clash against Pakistan.
The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma has failed to clinch an ICC trophy since their Champion Trophy triumph under the mercurial MS Dhoni in 2013. Even though the Men in Blue have been favorites for several ICC tournaments since then, they have failed to lay their hands on any major trophy in the past nine years.
Rohit Sharma addressed the challenges of participating in global tournaments, which they are expected to win. The Indian reckoned that the ongoing tournament will provide the team with the opportunity to play their best cricket, taking one game at a time.
"Yes, it is a challenge to not win the ICC trophy for nine years, if I am not wrong. The last one we won was in 2013. It has been a challenge with a team like us, there are lot of expectations, we certainly little disappointed with that. This tournament gives us that chance to change it and do well. We certainly know we have to play our best cricket to do well here. We need to take it one game at a time, and then go ahead."
"I do not want to say pressure, but it is a definitely challenge for us to come out on top in ICC tournaments. Yes, there has been not the performance that we would like to show in ICC tournaments, especially big games, but I believe the opportunity always comes and we have the opportunity now to come here and do well so I think we will have to focus on certain things to get that right," Rohit said in a press conference ahead of the high-voltage clash against Pakistan.
