Australia’s prolific opener David Warner has been rested for the third T20I against England and he has been replaced by Steve Smith in the playing XI. Warner seemed to have suffered a whiplash injury during the second T20I and is expected to be back in action for the T20 World Cup 2022 warm up fixture against India on October 17.

The 35-year-old scored a scintillating knock of 73 off just 44 balls in the first T20I but was dismissed for just four runs in the second game. Australia has lost the three-match series 0-2 to England already with one more game to go and this will be the final preparation for both the sides ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

Glenn Maxwell to open the innings

With the long tournament, Australia is not risking Warner and Glenn Maxwell has been slotted to open the innings. Interesting, despite Green doing really well, he hasn't been included in the XI with the management slotting in Smith at number 4.

An Australian journalist named Peter Lalor mentioned that the men in yellow would have ideally wanted their best playing XI taking the field and noted that Warner’s whiplash injury might restrict him from playing the third T20I. He went on add that the injury isn’t great but felt that Australia might not take the risk with Warner.

“They would’ve hoped I felt to have their full team tonight. My mail is I can reveal exclusively that Warner is unlikely to play. He kind of got whiplash in a fielding incident in the previous game. My mail is he’s not going great, they can always get around on the field if they had to, but I’m not sure they’ll take that risk," The Australian’ writer Peter Lalor told SEN 1170 Afternoons on Friday.

Meanwhile, Australia have won the toss and opted to bowl first. England have made two changes to their playing XI with Sam Curran and Chris Jordan making way for Mark Wood and Chris Woakes.
