Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir will be back on the cricket field yet again as he is set to captain the India Capitals in the Legends League Cricket 2022 edition. Along with Gambhir, a lot of retired international cricketers will be taking part in the tournament.
Four teams namely, Gujarat Giants, India Capitals, Bhilwara Kings and Manipal Tigers will battle it out in the tournament in a round robin format. An exhibition game took place ahead of the start of the tournament on September 16 between the India Maharajas and World Giants, and it was the India Maharajas that emerged victorious on the back of Yusuf Pathan's and Tanmay Srivastava's excellence.
The first match is scheduled on September 17 between Gambhir’s India Capitals and Sehwag’s Gujarat Giants and Gambhir has now opened up on his feeling of returning to the cricket field.
Always nice to come back and play a game of cricket: Gautam Gambhir
Gambhir mentioned that he is more nervous than he was when he made his international debut for India ahead of his return to the cricket field. He revealed the excitement over playing against the names he has been familiar with over the years and added about the challenges in captaincy for him.
"I’m pretty nervous. In fact, I am probably way more nervous than I was when I made my international debut because I have not played cricket for a very long time,” Gambhir said in a video released by the team’s social media handles.
"But it’s exciting because you’ve done that for a very long time. It's always nice to come back and play a game of cricket and a tournament of this level with some of the guys that I’ve played with and against. It is exciting. But at the same time, it’s been a bit challenging as well because captaincy will always be challenging for someone like me who expects a lot of myself and the other players as well," he added.
