Sri Lanka have announced their white-ball squads for the upcoming tour of England, with Dasun Shanaka making a return to the ODI setup and uncapped spinner Sachindu Colombage earning his maiden call-up. Shanaka is expected to play his first ODI since 2024, replacing one of the players omitted from the squad that won the three-match series against the West Indies 1-0 in June. Milan Rathnayake and Pramod Madushan have been left out of the ODI squad.
Shanaka has represented Sri Lanka in 71 ODIs and captained the side in 43 of those matches. However, his modest batting average of 22.39 in the format remains an area he will look to improve following his recall.
Charith Asalanka, who was omitted from Sri Lanka’s T20I squad for the West Indies series, has returned after an outstanding Lanka Premier League campaign. The all-round batter scored 385 runs at an impressive strike rate of 153.38 and has been named vice-captain for the England tour, with Kusal Mendis appointed captain.
There are also several changes to the T20I squad. Lahiru Udara has been recalled after last representing Sri Lanka at the Asian Games in 2021. Janith Liyanage and Tharindu Rathnayake have also earned call-ups, while Lasith Croospulle, Pavan Rathnayake, Milan Rathnayake and Dilshan Madushanka have been dropped from the squad that toured the Caribbean.
Sri Lanka’s tour begins on September 15 with three T20Is in Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester. The three-match ODI series will follow, with matches scheduled in Chester-le-Street, Leeds and The Oval. The opening ODI will be played on September 22.
