David Miller played one of his finest knocks in T20I cricket on Sunday, February 22, as his counter-attacking half-century orchestrated an important victory for South Africa against India in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup.

South Africa lost three quick wickets in the first innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, once Miller came out and batted with a positive intent, things got better for the Proteas. The experienced campaigner scored a brilliant 63 off 35 balls, belting seven fours and three sixes. His knock played an important role as South Africa posted a fighting total of 187/7. In reply, the Indian batting came a cropper and the hosts were dismissed for 111 in 18.5 overs. Miller won the Player of the Match award for his sensational batting performance on a tricky surface.

During the post-match press conference, Miller said that South Africa have shown India are beateable. He also mentioned that the current lot of South African players have been playing together for a long time, and that has helped them in pressure situations.

“That they are beatable. India come with, as I mentioned, an incredible team. But I think for us in a tournament like this, it's about making sure that we do, as I said, I keep going back to the simple things and making sure that we stay in our lane as a player and do the job and get the job done,” Miller said.

We're a mature team. A lot of guys have played together and a lot of cricket for South Africa and that goes a long way under pressure. So I think it's just staying in your lane, making sure that you get the job done and keep wanting more," he added.

South Africa stretched their winning streak to five in the T20 World Cup this year. Meanwhile, India will have to go back to the drawing board, work on their mistakes, and bounce back strongly against Zimbabwe on Thursday.
