In the ongoing Match 8 of the Women's Premier League (WPL 2025), UP Warriorz's (UP-W) batting showed some promise but struggled to capitalize in the middle overs. Kiran Navgire (17 off 20 balls) provided an early blitz, but her team failed to build on it. Notably, before this game, the Deepti Sharma-led side were on a losing streak and were yet to open their account in the ongoing 2025 editions of the T20 cricket carnival.
Talking Points from Match 8 of WPL 2025:
1. Another top order collapse for UP-W
The pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium is favourable for batting, known for its short boundaries and consistent bounce. Despite this, Warriorz have not yet managed to convert their starts into a substantial total. While Tahlia McGrath did try to hold one end by playing a patient knock (24 off 23 balls), the rest of the top order including skipper Deepti Sharma failed to get going.
2. Match winning all round performance of Chinelle Henry
However, the explosive West Indies all rounder Chinelle Henry's explosive quickfire fifty (62 off 23 balls) brought UP-W back into the game, as they finished with a decent total of 177/9 in their 20-over quota. Besides, while defending the 178-run target, Henry contributed with her bowling as well. She took the wicket of Marizanne Kapp to further dent the chances of Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) chasing down the target. In totality, though on a little expensive side, did help to keep the momentum going for her side in the bowling department as well. For her all round performance, Chinelle Henry was adjudged as the Player of the Match (POTM).
3. Grace Harris claims hattrick against Delhi Capitals Women
In reply to the run chase, the decision to bat second probably misfired for Capitals. A spirited bowling effort by UP-W broke the momentum of DC-W after they first dismissed skipper Meg Lanning and soon after her opening partner Shafali Varma too followed suit. The biggest moment of the game happened in the final over of the game. Grace Harris claimed a sensational hattrick in her final over.
Notably, Harris claimed the wickets of Annabel Sutherland, Shikha Pandey and Arundhati Reddy. As a result, Delhi Capitals Women lost the match by 33 runs. With this, UP Warriorz ended their losing streak to claim their first win in the WPL 2025 season.

Who Said What?
Losing skipper, Meg Lanning
I thought we did a lot right in the first 15 overs [while bowling]. Little bit of nibble and swing. But Chinelle batted brilliantly and we did not have any answers. Would be nice to slow it down a little but we were under a bit of time pressure. She batted extremely well, put us under pressure and we did not have any answers. [Surface] There was a little bit in it for the bowlers. The batters all evening were successful if they stuck in. We have played extremely well in patches, but haven't been as good in other times. Just have to put everything together going forward.
Winning Skipper, Deepti Sharma
Very important win. Whenever you win, you feel nice and the mindset is very positive and you get good thoughts. All the batters were coming in with a clear mind. We just wanted to get solid partnerships. Henry was great. We just asked her to back her strengths. [Improvements] We really need to pull up our socks in the fielding. We want to take the momentum forward.
Player of the Match, Chinelle Henry
[Plans] My role in the team is clear. I have to finish the game and I have been doing that pretty well. It is just about backing my skills. I just went about going out there and executing it. When I went out, the ball was moving but it was all about backing my strengths. Tonight, it was really great for me. To come here and to pick up from where i left was really amazing. [Dropped catches] We are a good unit, regardless. It happens. It is just about going back and doing it in the training. The next game is against RCB and the crowd is going to be loud. We just have to back each other and do well for the team.
