Star India batter Tilak Varma recently made history as he became the only batter to score three consecutive centuries in the T20 format. The 22-year-old achieved the feat as the Hyderabad skipper against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
He opened his tournament campaign with a century against Meghalaya on Saturday, November 23. It is worth noting that Varma scored 151 runs in 67 deliveries as he took Hyderabad to a score of 248/4. Varma’s knock of 151 runs is also the highest individual score by a player in the tournament’s history.
The century was Tilak’s third consecutive T20 century. He had recently scored two back-to-back centuries for the Indian team against South Africa in the recently concluded T20I series. The 22-year-old scored 107* runs in the third T20I of the series and amassed 120* runs in the fourth T20I, as India clinched the series.
Meghalaya require 249 runs to win clash against Hyderabad
Speaking of the ongoing clash between Hyderabad and Meghalaya, Hyderabad came in to bat first and put in an exceptional performance in the first innings. The side opened its innings with Rahul Singh Gahlaut departing for a duck and Tanmay Agarwal scoring 55 runs in 23 deliveries.
Skipper Varma came in to bat after the fall of the first wicket and put in a performance of a lifetime. Amassing151 runs in 67 deliveries, Varma helped Hyderabad post a big total on the scoreboard. Furthermore, Buddhi Rahul added 30 runs on the board as Hyderabad posted a total of 248 runs in the first innings of the game.
As for Meghalaya, Dippu was the highest wicket taker for his side in the first innings with two wickets to his name. Akash Kumar and Himan took one wicket each as well. Coming out to bat, Meghalaya will hope for a good performance with the bat and chase down 249 runs in the second innings.
