Star Pakistan batter Imam-Ul-Haq, who had been a regular feature in the national team for quite some time, has found himself being out of favour recently. He has reportedly lost his place in the national team due to allegations of leaking sensitive information to the media.
As per a report by Cricket Pakistan, Imam’s exclusion from the side is linked to a report submitted by former team director Mohammad Hafeez, where he implied that Imam had been sharing internal team matters, which led to the management making the decision to drop him.
It is worth noting that Imam last played for Pakistan in November 2023, when the side took on Australia in the Melbourne Test. The batter managed to score 10 and 12 across two innings and has been dropped ever since. Ever since Pakistan Cricket has gone with the duo of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique as the openers in Tests.
Interestingly, despite being excluded from the national team, Imam has made a good case for himself regarding a comeback. The 28-year-old recently put in good showings in domestic cricket and hit three consecutive centuries for the Lions during Pakistan's Champions One-Day Cup.
Meanwhile, after Imam’s exclusion, Pakistan have struggled quite a bit in Test cricket. The side recently lost a Test series to Bangladesh in their own backyard, and kicked off their three-game Test series against England with a loss in the first Test.
With the second Test set to kick off from October 15, Pakistan will hope to leave their poor performances behind them and finally register a win. As for Imam, the batter’s comeback chances in the national team have been looking bleak. However, with good domestic performances behind him, and Pakistan struggling, the 28-year-old will hope to get another chance in the squad.
