With the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 well underway, many eyes are set upon India women. The Women in Blue will kick off their campaign by taking on New Zealand women. Both sides will lock horns in the fourth game of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 4.
Ahead of the clash, there have been several discussions around who will be India’s number three batter in the tournament, and the side’s head coach, Amol Muzumdar was pretty vague about the matter. But now it seems like Harmanpreet Kaur is set to be India’s number three in the tournament.
"Absolutely. Not just the warm-up games, but we had already decided back in India, in the camps that happened before we set off for the World Cup. We had a lovely camp in Bangalore. We had decided there itself. These pre-World Cup matches absolutely stamped that for us. Is it a surprise? No. If you can guess, you can go through the scorecards and you will find it,” Amol Muzumdar was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

The number three position in the India women’s lineup is one that has been occupied by many players. It is worth noting that Yastika Bhatia, who had been the frontrunner for the position, had injured herself during the Bangladesh tour. However, Yastika made her return to the side and is in the squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
It looks like Yastika will have to wait for her turn at number three as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur batted at that position for India women in the T20 World Cup’s warm-up matches. Despite Harmanpreet not being able to go big in the warm-up matches, she is expected to bat at three for her ability to score some runs once set on the crease.
On the contrary, Harmanpreet Kaur is always found to be chasing the game when she comes out to bat at four or five. The Indian camp will hope that the star batter will be able to make the most of the number three position and repay the side’s faith in her.
