Star England all-rounder Moeen Ali has announced retirement from international cricket. The 37-year-old announced his retirement from Test cricket soon after the Ashes 2023 and now, after failing to get into the England squad for the upcoming Australia tour, the all-rounder decided to step aside from international cricket and would continue his journey in various franchise and domestic leagues across the globe.
He was part of England’s ODI World Cup-winning squad in 2019 and the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2022. Moeen has represented the national team in 138 ODIs, scoring 2355 runs and picking up 111 wickets. In T20Is, he has featured in 92 matches and scored 1229 runs at a strike rate of 142.41, scalping a total of 51 wickets as well.

Meanwhile, after failing to qualify for the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024, England team management called for changes and wanted to bring in younger players into the set-up. That’s the same reason why Moeen and Jonny Bairstow failed to get into the team for the Australia series. Reflecting upon the same, the Birmingham-born cricketer mentioned that he wanted to represent England again in international cricket but understands that the team needs to evolve into a new cycle.
“Playing for England were the best days of my life. I could hold on and try to play for England again, but I know in reality I won’t. Even retiring, I don’t feel it’s because I’m not good enough - I still feel I can play. But I get how things are, and the team needs to evolve into another cycle. It’s about being real to myself,” Moeen said, in an exclusive interview with Mail Sport columnist Nasser Hussain.
