India women's 2024 T20 World Cup journey will begin against New Zealand on October 4. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will also face Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia in the league stage as the top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals. Ahead of the mega tournament, India batter Veda Krishnamurthy has assessed India’s squad and stated that Deepti Sharma will be crucial for the team.
Deepti was in terrific form for London Spirit in the Women’s Hundred 2024, where she made 212 runs in eight matches, including a cracking six under pressure to win her team the coveted trophy. The 27-year-old also picked up eight wickets at an economy rate of 6.85. Since the World Cup will be played inthe UAE, the conditions are likely to be favourable for the spinners and keeping that in mind, Krishnamurthy noted the importance of Deepti.

“She definitely will be [important] because her bowling will be very crucial, and if there is any turn on offer, I think she will be more deadly in those conditions as well. It's been over a decade now, I think 2014 is when she debuted, and she has grown every year as a cricketer. She has come to a point where she has been a very crucial part of the Indian team, regardless of what the format is,” Krishnamurthy said on Star Sports.
Deepti Sharma can get those crucial runs: Veda Krishnamurthy
Krishnamurthy further noted that Deepti will have a crucial role with the bat as well. The cricketer has done well in the Women’s Hundred and can be effective for India down the order and the 31-year-old believes that the all-rounder needs to just continue with the same momentum.
“Her performance, even with the bat, if she is coming in at No. 7 or No. 8, she can get those crucial runs. So Deepti being in good form, she has been in good form with all these franchise leagues that she has played, she just needs to carry forward that form and do well for India," Krishnamurthy added.
