The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Monday, May 13, invited applications for the position of head coach for the senior men's cricket team. Interested candidates may apply for the position on or before May 27, 2024 by 6 pm IST to be considered for the position.
This move comes amidst the upcoming end of Rahul Dravid's tenure as the head coach of the Men in Blue. Notably, Dravid will culminate his service post the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. The newly appointed head coach will then assume the chair starting July 01, 2024, and will continue to hold such position for a period of three and a half years, ending December 31, 2027.
According to a recent release by the board, the process for selecting the applicants will be done through a comprehensive study of the applications received, which will be followed by in-person interviews and further examination for confirming the fitness of the applicant for the said position.
Although Rahul Dravid has the power or the rights to reapply for the position, recent reports had revealed that the former cricketer is unlikely to hold the position again, and thus, the Indian team is likely to have a new face as their head coach.

What will be the responsibilities of India's Head Coach?
The successful candidate, who will be elected as the Head Coach, will be in charge to build a world-class cricket team, which is able to achieve success across different international formats, which in turn, inspires current and future generation of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach towards the sports.
The Head Coach will be responsible for developing and guiding the Men in Blue in all the three formats - Tests, ODIs and T20Is, and will have the overall accountability for the performance and management of the team(s). Additionally, he/she will also be presiding over the maintenance of ethical codes and discipline within the team environment, and take necessary steps, aiming to improvement if the need be.
What are the eligibility criteria for selection of India Head Coach?
- A person who wishes to apply for the position of Head Coach should have -
- Represented his/her national team in minimum of 30 Tests or 50 ODIs; or
- Been a previous Head Coach of a Test playing nation ( ICC full-members) for a period not less than two years; or
- Been a Head Coach of ICC's Associate Nations, or an IPL Team, or an equivalent international league, first-class team, national A side, for a period not less than three years; or
- BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent as defined
- Age not exceeding 60 years
What will be the Salary/Remuneration of India Head Coach?
According to a release by BCCI, the salary of newly-appointed Head Coach will be completely negotiable and will be eligible to be matched with experience.
