Game 19 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) featured a clash between Mumbai Indians women and Royal Challengers Bangalorewomen at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, March 12. This game was a must-win contest for the Bengaluru-based franchise. The clash began with Royal Challengers Bangalore electing to field first.
Mumbai put on a poor show with the bat. With only the openers Hayley Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana scoring some good knocks of 26 and 30 runs, respectively. Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry was the standout performer with the bowl claiming six wickets, to bundle the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side to 113 runs in the first innings of the game.
Aiming to chase down the target, Bangalore was optimistic to chase it down easily. But the defending champions did try to come back in the game by giving some early blows to RCB-W. But it was yet again Perry who took them out of crisis and scored a brilliant knock of 40*, for which she was handed the Player of the Match award. Richa Ghosh also played a good cameo to guide RCB-W to the playoffs defeating Mumbai by seven wickets with five overs remaining.
