Mustafizur Rahman played his first match for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 wearing a jersey which was slightly different from that of his teammates.

The Bangladesh pacer's services were acquired by the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side for his base price of INR 2 crore at the 2024 auctions held in Dubai. On Friday, March 22, in the opening match of the 17th season of the cash-rich league, Mustafizur made his debut for the five-time champions, who faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

During the clash, Mustafizur's jersey caught the attention of some fans as it didn't have a particular logo, which was present on the jerseys of the rest of the Chennai players. That particular logo was of SJ Alcohol Brands, a corporate sponsor of the franchise. According to reports, the left-arm pacer declined to wear an alcohol brand's logo on his kit.

Rahman isn't the first player to have refused to wear an alcohol brand's logo on his jersey due to his religious background. Earlier, star cricketers like Hashim Amla, Imran Tahir, Moeen Ali, and Rashid Khan have also worn jerseys without logos of alcohol or other intoxicating products, citing their religious beliefs.

Gaikwad's men will next face Gujarat Titans in their second game of the season on Tuesday, March 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This is a replay of last year's final, where MS Dhoni-led Chennai emerged victorious after Ravindra Jadeja hit a boundary off the last ball at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Like Chennai, Gujarat are also coming into the encounter on the back of a win. Shubman Gill started his captaincy career in the IPL with a six-run win against Mumbai Indians on Sunday, March 24. Fans can expect a riveting encounter when the Titans and Super Kings collide on Tuesday.
