Akash Deep's father will be very happy wherever he is: Aakash Chopra lauds debutant Akash Deep's impressive showing

After grinding hard in domestic cricket for long, Akash Deep earned his debut call-up in the five-match series against England. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah was given a break from the Ranchi Test to manage his workload, which eventually made room for Akash to make his international debut. Soon after the cap presentation, he met his mother - who was once against the idea of him playing cricket. Akash’s father too didn’t want him to play cricket, but the 27-year-old continued to follow his passion as he went on to pick up the wickets of Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley in his first spell in Test cricket.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was very impressed with the performance of the debutant. He lauded Akash’s movement and pace and stated, that his father would be proud wherever he is, as he passed away while Akash was trying to make a name for himself in domestic cricket.

“I am sure that Akash Deep's father will be very happy wherever he is. His son has worked hard and achieved his dream of playing Test cricket. He has had a stunning start to his Test career. His movement, his pace, was something to watch out for,” Chopra said after the end of the day's play on his YouTube channel.

Notably, Akash was in Durgapur when his father suffered a paralytic attack. Soon after that, his elder brother passed away, which forced him to stop playing cricket for a while. However, he couldn’t settle for a job as he soon hit the ground running. He returned back to Bengal and kept working hard on his bowling, which helped him earn a spot in the state team.

Notably, he has played 30 First Class matches and picked up 108 wickets, which impressed the national selectors as they picked him for the England series. Furthermore, he also represents Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and thus, a lot of fans will be keeping a watch on the speedster from Bengal.
