After securing a thrilling two-wicket victory in the first match, India is all set to continue their momentum against the ODI World Cup champions Australia in the second match of the five-match T20I series at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Ahead of the second T20I, young left-handed batter Tilak Varma emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear and straightforward mindset. Varma shared insights into his strategy in the first T20I, stating that his mindset was to take charge when the leg spinner was bowling because the team wanted him to score ten runs per over in that situation.
“My mindset was like, in that situation, the leg spinner was bowling, so I want to take charge because we want 10 per over in that situation. So at that time my mindset was clear. If the leg spinner is bowling, I'll go for him. So for fast bowlers, settled batsman, captain Surya bhai [Suryakumar Yadav] was batting. So I was confident that he can finish against the fast bowlers. So especially that over I want to charge the leg spinner,” said Tilak as quoted by India Today.
The 21-year-old batter emphasized simplicity in his game and sticking to his role in the team.
“My mindset is simple. As I said before, I have got a role in the team. So I just want to stick to that role and I'll be clear with my mindset,” Tilak added.
India's successful chase of 209 runs in the first T20I was led by captain Suryakumar Yadav's fiery 80 off 42 and Ishan Kishan's impressive 58 off 39. Now going forward, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team continues their momentum in the series and how the mighty Aussies make a comeback after a loss in the first match where they succumbed to a defeat despite scoring 200 plus.
The pitch at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram is expected to be a batting paradise, so fans can expect another run-thriller in the series for sure.
