In a recent update, it's been revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Rahul Dravid to continue being the head coach of the Indian cricket team. The BCCI approached him last week, offering an extension with no specific end date mentioned.

However, it's not confirmed yet if Dravid has agreed to the offer. The main reason the BCCI wants him to stay is to keep the structure he established over the past two years intact. If a new head coach comes in, it might disrupt the plans Dravid had put in place.

If Dravid accepts the offer, his first task in this extended role will be leading the Indian team on their tour to South Africa. The tour includes three T20Is and ODIs each, followed by two Tests in Centurion and Cape Town.

Dravid became the head coach after Ravi Shastri in 2021, and his initial two-year term ended with the ODI World Cup where India finished as runners-up. If he continues, it's likely that he will keep the same assistant coaches he started working with in 2021. During his tenure, Vikram Rathour was the team's batting coach, Paras Mhambrey was the bowling coach, and T Dilip was the fielding coach.

I haven't thought about continuing as a coach: Dravid

After the recent World Cup final, Dravid expressed pride in India's dominance across formats but was disappointed about not winning an ICC trophy. When asked about continuing as a coach, he mentioned not having time to think about it, as his focus was solely on the World Cup campaign.

"I haven't thought about it. I have no time to think about this, and no time to reflect on this," Dravid had said. "I will when I get the time to do that. But at this point in time, I was completely focused on this campaign. I was focused on this World Cup, and there was nothing else on my mind. And I haven't given any other thought to what happens in the future."
