The ODI World Cup 2023 is well underway, and with the various sides taking on each other in the marquee event, various fans and pundits have come forward to predict the four semi-finalists that will be playing against each other.
Many legends like Dale Steyn, Sachin Tendulkar, and others took centre stage and named the four sides that they think will make it to the knockout stages of the marquee event in 2023.
Veteran English pacer James Anderson joined the list, and he named the four teams that he thinks will go far in the competition. Anderson named the likes of Australia, England, India, and South Africa and also stated that England would beat India in a tight finale.
“The semi-finalists will be England, India, Australia, and South Africa. I like how South Africa turned it around in their series against Australia. Their batting is strong, and they have nice options with the ball. Pakistan will be close, as will New Zealand, but both will miss out. I can see England beating India in a tight final,” James Anderson told BBC Test Match Special.
England look to make up for their season opener loss
Speaking of England’s World Cup campaign so far, the side faced off against the Tom Latham-led New Zealand in the season opener of the tournament at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. Putting in a not-so-good performance, the side managed to post 282 runs on the board after resilient knocks by Joe Root and Jos Buttler.
However, as the Black Caps came down to chase the target, magnificent centuries by Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra helped New Zealand register a sensational nine-wicket victory. For England’s second game, the side will take on Bangladesh at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Tuesday, October 10 and they will be keen on putting in an improved performance.
