Jonny Bairstow’s stumping in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s is still one of the hottest topics in the cricketing world. Notably, the cricketer left the crease early in the 52nd over of the second innings and looking at the opportunity to dismiss him, Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey used his game sense to stump the flamboyant batter. Bairstow, who was shellshocked, had no idea where to look as the third umpire gave him out after reviewing it. With that, the spirit of the game debate is once again doing rounds as England skipper Ben Stokes clearly mentioned that he would not have done something like that.

On the other hand, a lot of former Australia and England cricketers have defended Carey, saying that the keeper has done no wrong. Legendary umpire Simon Taufel too, stated the same, mentioning that the umpire has made the right decision and England should accept it.

“Correct decision made. They (England) just didn’t like it. For that ball to be considered dead after the over or even after the delivery, both sides need to disregard it is in play. Clearly, the fielding side hadn’t,” Taufel said while talking to ABC Sydney Mornings.

Interestingly, this incident has ignited the ongoing Ashes. During the second Test, former cricketer Kevin Pietersen complained about England players being too friendly with their arch-rivals, and thus, they haven’t been as effective. However, things are expected to change in the third match at Headingley, especially after England coach Brendon McCullum stated that he can’t imagine players of these two teams having a beer together.

Thus, England, 2-0 down at the moment, are expected to come hard at the Pat Cummins-led side in the forthcoming match, which is slated to begin on July 6. A few changes are expected for the home side, as James Anderson could possibly make way for Mark Wood, while Moeen Ali is likely to make his return. When it comes to Australia, Todd Murphy is expected to replace the injured Nathan Lyon. Scott Boland, too can make his way for Josh Hazlewood.
