Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was deemed extremely lucky by many cricket experts after he survived an 'obstructing the field' incident in the game against Delhi Capitals on Saturday, May 6.
Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody also opined on the same and clearly called out the batter for changing his line while trying to retreat to his crease in anticipation of a throw at his end. Karthik was too early in leaving his crease and as soon as he realised that there was not a run on offer he scampered back to the non-striker's end.
Tom Moody took to his Twitter account and wrote, "Sorry DK that was clearly “obstructing the field".
Notably, the incident happened in the 19th over of RCB’s batting when Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar bowled a brilliant yorker to Mahipal Lomror, who was on song at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Meanwhile, in an attempt to take a quick single, Karthik made a dash towards the business end despite Lomror not calling for it. Understanding the same, the 37-year-old quickly turned his back and started running towards his end.
Mukesh fielded the ball and took a shy at the stumps and in anticipation of the same Karthik changed the course of his stride. This made DC skipper David Warner furious as he ran from long on and had a heated discussion with Karthik in the middle. Eventually, the home team didn’t appeal for the same but the incident clearly ruffled plenty of feathers.
DC defeat RCB by seven wickets
Batting first, the Faf du Plessis-led side posted 181 runs on the board after 20 overs. Virat Kohli once again scored a half-century while Mahipal Lomror’s 54* runs off 29 deliveries helped RCB accelerate towards the fag end of RCB's innings.
When it came to the chase, DC were brilliant right from the start. England international Phil Salt smashed 87 runs off 45 deliveries while Rilee Rossouw played a brilliant cameo of 35* runs off 22 deliveries. With that, the home team won the match by seven wickets and moved to number nine in the IPL points table.
