In the 54th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, five-time champions Mumbai Indians took on the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, May 9. After Bangalore posted 199 runs on the board for Mumbai to chase, the five-time champions put in a sensational batting performance.

It was the knock of star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav that was crucial in MI registering their sixth win of the IPL 2023. Coming in to bat after the fall of the first wicket, Suryakumar played a knock for the ages. The 32-year-old scored 83 runs in just 35 deliveries and propelled his side to a brilliant win.

Seeing his explosive knock, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra could not help but laud the performance of Suryakumar Yadav. Chopra came forward and opined that he should trademark his shots and even patent them.

"In my opinion, no one else can be the most valuable player—83 runs off 35 balls—who hits like that. When Suryakumar Yadav starts hitting, the opposition team is eclipsed. The sort of shots he plays—I said it last time sitting here itself—he should patent his shots and take a copyright. When he started hitting, Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely stellar," Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

MI jump to third place in the IPL points table

Apart from the knock of Suryakumar Yadav, Nehal Wadhera and Ishan Kishan made big contributions during the run chase as well. Ishan opened the innings and amassed 42 runs in 21 balls, whereas Nehal played an unbeaten knock of 52 runs in 34 deliveries.

Winning the game by six wickets, Mumbai Indians jumped to third place in the IPL points table. They currently have 12 points in 11 matches, and the Rohit Sharma-led team would look to maintain their winning ways in the forthcoming matches to solidify their qualification for the playoffs of the competition.
