Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh praised all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his excellent spell in Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2023. On Friday, April 21, the four-time IPL champions defeated Aiden Markram and Co. by seven wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK have now won four of their six matches, whereas SRH have only won two.
CSK restricted SRH to 134/7 after asking them to bat first, thanks to Jadeja's 3/22 in four overs. MS Dhoni and Co. then chased down the target with seven wickets and eight balls to spare, consolidating third place in the IPL 2023 points table.
While asked whether bowling four overs in a row would have helped Jadeja's cause, Harbhajan replied the ace all-rounder didn't deliver a single bad ball against SRH. He went on to say that the line and length were so exact that the batters wanted to score but Jadeja didn't let them.
"You get the rhythm and if see Ravindra Jadeja today - he didn't bowl even one bad ball. The line and length was so precise that the batters had to do something special to score runs, that he won't give runs, so you would have to play some shots to score runs," Harbhajan said during a post-match discussion on Star Sports.
The shot options SRH chose were wrong: Harbhajan
Harbhajan then criticised the SRH batters' shot selection, pointing out that they chose an inappropriate way. The 42-year-old also questioned Mayank Agarwal's approach, stating he came out of the crease early which led to his dismissal
"The shot options they chose were wrong. Mayank Agarwal came out of the crease so early. He gave a telegram that he was going to come out and gave the bowler an opportunity to see him and bowl slightly wider," he added.
Jadeja first dismissed Abhishek Sharma, who was caught by Ajinkya Rahane, to end a 36-run second-wicket stand. After that, 34-year-old Rahul Tripathi was caught by Akash Singh off Jadeja's delivery. The all-rounder finally dismissed Agarwal courtesy of fabulous glovework by skipper Dhoni.
