The wait is finally over. The player auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is all set to take place on February 13. Social media is abuzz with talks of the marquee event and there is a sense of excitement floating in the air as prominent names of world cricket will go under the hammer. The marquee event will be held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai and fans will witness the five franchises take center stage.

A total of 1525 players registered for the WPL 2023 auction but the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) pruned down the list to 409. Among the players to feature at the much-awaited event, 202 are capped and 199 are uncapped. Further, there will be eight cricketers from the associate nations at the auction.

Each of the five franchises will enter the auction with a purse of INR 12 crore and would look to use the money to add top-drawer players to their arsenal. Many proven performers of the T20 arena will be up for grabs in the bidding arena and teams are likely to leave no stone unturned to acquire them.

A total of 24 players have put themselves in the top bracket of INR 50 lakh. Some of the renowned names on the list include Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Natalie Sciver, Meg Lanning, Ashleigh Gardner, Deandra Dottin, and Sophie Ecclestone. Moreover, 30 players have set their base prices to INR 40 Lakh.

Post the player auction, the attention will shift to the cricket field with the Women’s Premier League 2023 slated to kick-start on March 4. The final of the high-profile competition will take place on March 26. The T20 carnival will consist of a total of 22 matches, which will be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the D.Y. Patil Stadium.
