Pakistan cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi is all set to return to cricketing action after a long break from cricket, courtesy an ugly injury he suffered during the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in November 2022. Shaheen had landed awkwardly during the catch he took to dismiss Harry Brook in the torunament final in Melbourne.
The knee discomfort that led to him walking off at a crucial juncture in the final was possibly “due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing”. He underwent rehabilitation and conditioning programme to strengthen his knee in Pakistan once he returned back with the team.
Waiting period over for Shaheen as he edges closer to return
Taking to his official Twitter handle, the tall pacer posted a few pictures of him practicing in a warm-up match with his PSL franchise Lahore Qalandars, whee he appeared to be almost match-fit.

For the unversed, Shaheen is the captain of the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL and with the looks of it, it is most likely that he might just as well make a comeback to competitive cricket against the Multan Sultans in the opening match of the tournament on February 13.
Shaheen had candidly spoken about his rehab time period, stating that when he intially suffered the injury, he believed he would soon be able to resume the game as such injuries are quite normal and regular for a sportsperson. But, after medical scrutiny and examinations, he realised that the injury had aggravated a great manifold and he would literally have to miss games for quite sometime.
He did have a knee injury earlier, which had kept him out of the Asia Cup in 2022 as well. The speedster had undergone rehabilitation in London for a knee injury he had sustained while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in July 2022.
He had further added that keeping away from his profession did at times take a massive toll on his mental health, but to motivate himself, he would go through his videos where he could see himself bowling and taking wickets, which would again charge him up and encourage him to recover and get back on the field.
