Gulf Giants went into the history books after triumphing against Desert Vipers at the Dubai International Stadium to become the first team to lift the coveted ILT20 trophy. James Vince continued his winning habit in title bouts as his side eased past Desert Vipers in the titular clash on Sunday, February 12.
It was veteran Australian batter Chris Lynn who rose to the occasion for the Giants, registering an unbeaten 72 off 50 deliveries to guide his side home in a tricky chase. Their opponents, Desert Vipers, were in all sorts of trouble in the first innings before Wanindu Hasaranaga came out all guns blazing to take his side to a respectable total.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder smashed 55 off just 27 deliveries to provide much-needed impetus in the middle overs. However, his efforts went in vain as Lynn used his wealth of experience in the second innings to power his side home with relative ease. While the Gulf Giants' players received a gold medal embroidered with 240 diamonds each, several other awards were dished out after the conclusion of the tournament.
England's Alex Hales finished as the highest run-getter of the tournament, seeing off compatriot James Vince's challenge, who finished in the second spot. Hales' international teammate Chris Jordan finished as the most prolific bowler of the tournament with 20 scapls to his name in ten matches.
