As Australia prepares to take on India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Aussies are preparing for moments in the series when the bowling attack of India could overwhelm them. The visitors started their preparations for the series on specially-prepared surfaces in Sydney.
In the same line of events, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey recalled his experience of last year’s tours against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, where the pitches were different from the ones the team trained on. He also talked about an Australia A game that he played in Bengaluru, where Mohammed Siraj was the star performer despite the pitch favouring spin. Carey also added that keeping aside spin fear, reverse swing factor can also be lethal for the touring party.
"Going to Pakistan, there was a lot of spin talk, and I found the reverse-swinging ball difficult. I played a four-day game here in 2018, and a lot of the talk was spin, and I probably forgot a bit how damaging both teams' fast bowlers are with the reverse-swinging ball on a wicket that might be a bit up and down," Carey was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
We know the threats that India can pose: Alex Carey
The talk of India’s spin attack has dominated the build-up to one of the most anticipated Test series of all time. Alex Carey has full faith in the Australian team that they will be able to adapt to the conditions, and the experience in the squad could help them in the series.
"We know the threats that India has. For a lot of the guys who have played in the past will be spoken to, and we'll have our batters' meeting soon. We'll face a lot of different spinners throughout the next few days, and our spinners are bowling well as well, so for everyone, it's getting our feet on the ground," Carey added
Both teams will take each other on in the first Test in Nagpur on February 9.
